The Department of English at MES College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar organised the
seventh edition of ‘Fun with Literature’ recently to initiate and enhance love
of literature among the Higher Secondary students of Mormugao taluka. The theme
for this year’s event was Fun with Drama. Five skits were presented by the
Skill Enhancement Course students of the SYBA Class as part of their paper Text
& Performance. Schools from in and around Vasco participated in the event.
The winners of the monologue competition organised for the HSS students were:
Khushi Nahar, Kendriya Vidyalaya 2; Lowell Fernandes, M ES Higher Secondary
School, Vishnu Vinod, Kendriya Vidyalaya 2 and Muskan Shaikh, MES Higher
Secondary School.
Associate Professor Roxana Singh, Head, Department of English,
Carmel College for Women, Nuvem was the resource person. In her address, she
deliberated on the importance of plays in literature and emphasised that
theatre teaches life skills and prepares students for life. It’s not important
to know how well they have performed as much as the amount of effort they have
put in. It helps them to be alert, demands concentration and collaboration.
Vice Principal Dr Rekha Gaonkar welcomed the gathering, Head,
Department of English, Dr Sandhya N Bhandare spoke on the history and legacy of
the Department of English.
The
English Honours students from BA Semester V, dressed up as diverse characters
from literature and enthralled the audience with their dialogues and
expressions. Dr S Susan Deborah, proposed the vote of thanks.
