Let the campus fests begin!

It’s the beginning of the season for college festivals, and revellers are all set to rock them with their unique talents. A massive number of competitions are organised at these events. Café looks into all that is to be expected from this time of year on campus

College students are always abuzz with excitement when the
month of December comes around, as it is the season for merry making. All the ‘cool’
events are hosted in this month. It’s the month that marks the beginning of the
‘fun week’ and major college fests.

These college festivals allow youngsters to showcase their
hidden talent. During the fun week students are all in mood to have gala time.
They offer a break from the daily routine of studies and allow students to enjoy
the being part of more fun activities. “The major college festivals that are
held, include the likes of Happenings by Goa Engineering College,  Tatva
by V M Salgaoncars college of law, Creations by Dhempe college of arts and
science, KOSS by Dempo, ‘Plexus’ by Goa Medical College and Plateunica by Goa
University. All these fests will kick start from this season,” says Yugank
Naik, an ex-student of Goa University. Apart from the major festivals held in
Goan colleges, there is also the Yuva Mahotsav, where college teams
participate.

‘Creations’ by Dhempe College, Miramar will be starting from
December 18. “There will be a fashion week organised by the college,” says one
staff member from the college.

Quite a number of national-level college festivals are also
hosted in the state, such as ‘Impressions’ by Rosary College Navelim. Valdo
Fernandes, a third year BBA student of Rosary College, Navelim says, “At
‘Impressions’, we had seven colleges participating. There were colleges from
Belgaum and Hubli present as well.”

College events bend the rules and sometimes bring out the
best in one. It’s a cultural extravaganza ranging from art to dance to knowledge-based
activities. “The college festivals not only allow one to bring out their best,
but it is also a platform where we make new friends, as we get to communicate
with other college students. We share knowledge as well as meet new students
and mingle,” says Harsha from MES College, Zuarinagar.  

In the month of January, ‘Revolutions’ a college event organised
by the Goa College of Pharmacy, will be held. “‘Revolutions’ is an event in
which many students participate,” informs Kapil Kishor Korgaonkar, an
ex-student of Goa College of Pharmacy. 

“Colleges have always been a big strength of Goa Yuva
Mahotsav. Many members of the youth who have participated in the past, are now
professors who undertake concerted efforts to train the students,” says Anwesha
Singbal, the working president of Goa Yuva Mahotsav which starts on December
12.  

‘Urba’, an inspiration is a youth cultural festival, open
for college and higher secondary sections to be held on December 5-6. It
includes a host of competitions include like music fusion, street play, face
painting, elocution, folk dance, etc.
