‘7 Dayz’ is an adventure drama film with a thought-provoking theme. ‘7 Dayz’ is having its
premiere today, June 6, 2018 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao at 7:30pm. The next
screening at the same venue will be on June 8 at 7:30pm, followed by two
screenings at Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), Panjim on June 16 and 17 at
3:30pm and 7:30pm respectively.
Directed by Joywin Fernandes, ‘7 Dayz’ is about the lives of
four Goans who reach saturation point with the crimes and corruption directly
affecting the people and hence form a vigilante group. The film won the award
for Best Story of a Regional Film at the 4th Rajasthan International Film
Festival.
Joywin says, “The story of the film shows the frustration of the
common man. Most of the story is put together because of the current affairs
full of crime and tragedy that appear on the newspapers every day. The story is
very relatable to every Goan. ‘7 Dayz’ promises to have everything, from drama
to comedy to action for Konkani movie lovers and will be released in Goa after
two years in the making.”
The cast for ‘7 Dayz’ includes Prince Jacob, Rajdeep Naik, Kevin
D’Mello, Sonam Morajkar, Samiksha Desai, Satish Gawas and Comedian Agostinho.
The story and dialogues are by Joywin, while Atmaram Sawant is the editor,
Rocky Wilz is the cinematographer, Frazer Pacheco is the music director and
lyrics are by Rosario Fernandes. Veteran theatre and film actor Anant Jog is
making his debut in Konkani cinema with this film.
Actor Kevin D’Mello says, “I play the character of a young adult
and the story is based on youth and the circumstances they face in their
everyday lives. The story of the film was kept as realistic as possible and
while the film was being shot, news that appeared in the newspapers was
incorporated in the story to make it look up to date.”
Sonam Morajkar shares her experience working with Anant Jog and
the Goan cast: “Anant Jog is a very simple and down to earth actor. There is
much to learn from actors like him, who have made a place in the industry
without a godfather. We also had a great star cast from Goa and it was
enjoyable working with each of them. The film has utilised the talents of 50
actors and is based on very sensitive topics. It focuses on issues like
domestic violence, rape and other crimes that we hear about in the daily news.”
She further adds, “In the film, I play the protagonist Sonam, a
middle class girl who sees and hears about domestic violence and harassment in
offices. She notices how people approach the police but are offered no help.
Disillusioned by what’s happening, she wants to bring a change but help does
not come from any quarters. Her story is the story of many other middle class
women and the daily struggle they have to go through.”
Prince Jacob has been a trailblazer when it comes to making a
mark on the Konkani cinema scene. With hits across the years, he will be seen
in a different role in ‘7 Dayz’. “This film is a story about every Goan and our
present day circumstances. It also dwells on the subject of accountability.
Working on this film was satisfying because I play three different characters
in it. I’m an artiste, so I know how to switch between roles. I maybe a
comedian but most of my roles in films are serious ones. As far as acting is
concerned, I enjoy both, serious as well as comedy roles.
One of the key highlights of the film is the high quality VFX or
visual effects adapted in the film. He explains, “It’s a tedious process as
there’s a lot of detailed work that goes into it. It took close to six months
but we are very happy with the results. We had to reshoot many scenes, as there
would be a sudden political scenario that would take place that could be added
to the film.”
Sharing
his view on Konkani cinema and its future, Prince Jacob says, “In the last
year, close to 10 to 12 Konkani movies have been released, which is wonderful
news for the industry. People want to see Konkani cinema and have shown support
in good numbers. Films are a reflection of life. We as artistes can communicate
to our audiences and tell various stories through films.”
