The Department
of Psychology of Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, organised a One-Day National Seminar on the topic
Trends and Challenges in Research. The Chief Guest for the Inaugural function
was Dr Abdul Shaban, Dy. Director of Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS)
Tuljapur Campus, Osmanabad, Maharashtra. The Principal, Rev Dr Simão Diniz
welcomed the gathering and expressed concern and need for research. Dr Shaban
delivered the key note address. When speaking about the trends in research, Dr
Shaban spoke about the increasing investment in research and development, the qualitative
nature of research, stream and discipline dominance, increase in
collaborations, dominance of English and the globalisation of research.
The first technical
session on Challenges in Research was conducted by Dr Manoj Kamat, Principal of
Shree Mallikarjun College of Arts and Commerce, Canacona. He stressed that the
main challenge in taking up research was to initiate the process of undertaking
research, and explained with examples how it was important to move forward
against mental barriers.
The second technical
session on Research Problem: A Critical Step was conducted by Dr Abdul Shaban,
who highlighted the nature, types, sources, features and the importance of a
research problem.
The
third technical session on Blemishes in Research was conducted by Dr Gopakumar
V, Librarian at Goa University. Dr Gopakumar spoke about the process of writing
a research report with creating a reading list, preparing the synopsis, data
collection and interpretation.
