The lockdown has been extended until the first week of next month. This has meant people are stuck at home, some still working and others twiddling their thumbs. It has meant many have time on their hands. In most cases that usually means they would either like to relax or watch anything that is entertaining on television or online.
That perhaps explains the reason for the telecast of serials of a certain vintage that has caught the fancy of a large percentage of the population. There has also been an interesting trend of people uploading content on platforms as diverse as YouTube, Twitter, TikTok to name just a few. Songs, dances, food reviews are all being uploaded on these platforms during the lockdown and it seems to have caught the fancy of viewers.
Engineers who construct food appreciation digitally
Good food is a passion for almost everyone. Reviewing the food and then writing a blog or increasingly presenting a show online is an option that is growing very popular.
Aaditya Kamat and Pranay Shirodkar who are presently pursuing their engineering degree at the Goa College of Engineering presents Goan Foodoholic which reviews food in various restaurants in the state. They upload their reviews on platforms as diverse as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Google maps, Zomato, Trip Advisor and Twitter. Speaking to Café, Aaditya said “Being passionate about the food we started with this venture two years ago, reviewing restaurants in Goa showcasing wide cuisine around. Presently we have also started out-of-station reviews starting from Bangalore. We keep our content quite exclusive, unlike other food pages.”.
They upload content on their blog site and then every fortnight upload their video review on digital platforms. This phased release of content ensures interest in their site remains high. During the lockdown, they have uploaded content on the starters of a restaurant they have visited. The review of the main course and the dessert will follow in the weeks ahead. Aaditya said they were focussed on ensuring standards were maintained so time was spend editing the content and ensuring viewers had an entertaining time while watching their content”.
From courtrooms and buildings to dancing online
There are people from various professions uploading content online. Aparna Tiloji and Pooja Madkaikar an architect and lawyer have been uploading dance performances on their YouTube channel for over two years. Pooja who practices in the lower and district court said they were also conducting training sessions online. The duo has just uploaded a dance challenge in the classical style for their students and anyone interested in taking it on. Pooja said they were keen on using technology to spread the joy of classical dance.
Under 5 min short films on Goa always work
Kartik Karekar a mass media student in Mumbai has made two short films in Goa and uploaded them on YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp said he had recently uploaded the second movie recently which was about double roles. Earlier he had made a four-minute film about what one could do during the lockdown. Kartik intends to join the film industry once he completes his course. These are all people with some knowledge but it does not mean there is any obstacle to doing so.
People of all ages, professions, and levels of expertise are uploading content making it more democratic. Exciting times are certainly ahead.
