Re-opening on an appetising note

The excitement of a new season in Goa is always heightened with the re-opening of its popular restaurants and shacks which had downed shutters during the monsoons

As the rains abate and another new season unfolds, Goa
anticipates the re-opening of its popular eating spots which had downed
shutters during the monsoons. Closed for reasons such as location in open
spaces and tourist downturn, these restaurants and shacks beckon the new season
with renewed energy while retaining their original charm of cuisine and
ambience.

A must visit spot for it unique chef’s cuisine and menu,
Bomra’s Restaurant just opened for the season on October 3. A dedicated food
restaurant which has won several national and international awards, Bomra’s
culinary experience lies in its different cuisine, wooing varied palates from
all over the world for the past 11 years. “We are inspired by Goa’s unique
cuisine and ingredients, but we interpret them in a completely different way.
Food and ambience is our main emphasis. Our menu this year is pretty much the
same, but there are plans on the anvil for something new as well,” explains
Chris Donner, Manager of this up-market restaurant on the Candolim-Sinquerim
road in North Goa.

The Villa Blanche Bistro at Assagao is getting a new coat of
paint before it re-opens in time for Diwali. Anticipating another good season
where clientele from all over the world including Goans can just hang out,
enjoy good company, good music and good food, proprietor Yogini’s menu will
also remain the same. “We are repeating the good old classics of strictly
continental food, especially German food and German cakes, natural ice creams,
vegan food to suit every palate from the yogi to the biker or hip customer that
walks in,” she maintains. Forty different dishes constitute the menu which is
served from breakfast through lunch before sundown.

Opened just a month ago, Stone House, Candolim is revving up
the season with a live band in attendance at this old laterite-stone house. “We
are sticking to our continental, Goan and Indian cuisine as well as grilled and
fish platters,” explains owner Christopher D’Souza. His energies this season
are directed to keeping the ‘wow’ in the place which has attracted so many in
the past.

Down South, the covers are pulled back to reveal another
list of hot spots. The parties are lively at Zeepbop by the Sea at Utorda,
which opened in September, with an array of Goan, Indian and continental
cuisine. “The food, the ambience and the service is what attracts the crowds
from all over,” avers owner Sergio Dias. To pep up the party one or two man
bands often offset in-house music.

This season promises another offering of sumptuous cuisine!
