Recitation of Indian poems: a 48 hours marathon event

Kavya Hotra, a meet comprising over 400 poets, promises to be a treat for poetry-loving Goans and aims at setting a world record for its duration, participation and variety

Kavya Hotra – a national poets’ meet will
see over 400 poets reciting their poems in all Indian languages. An event like
this is happening for the first time in the history of the poetry arena. “It’s
a unique event thus we have requested the Guinness World Records and Limca Book
of Records to review the programme. If we successfully get qualified as per
their set of rules then it will be added in their records,” says Vishnu Surya
Wagh, Chairman, Kala Academy.

“The event will comprise 48 hours of
uninterrupted poetry presentations in all Indian languages by poets of regional
as well as national level from all parts of the country,” he added.

The Goan literary fraternity is very
excited to have such an event happening in their state. Author and poet Dilip
Borkar, who would be reciting one of his poems, said, “‘Kavya’ means ‘poems’,
while ‘Hotra’ means ‘campfire’. The concept behind this event is the recitation
of poems for 48 hours non-stop. It will start at 12 pm on July 23, 2015 and
conclude on July 25. The event will also envelope the 50th birthday of Vishnu
Surya Wagh on July 24. He is a prolific poet and his love for poetry is
immense, so this will be a fitting celebration.”

“A similar poetry recitation programme was
held in Goa earlier, but it was a 24-hour event hosted by Ugtem Molob and
limited only to Goan poets,” informs Dilip.

Representatives of the Guinness Book of
World Records and Limca Book of Records will be attending the event on the
inaugural day, July 23, at the Kala Academy complex, where the event will be
held. National level poets of different languages will present their poems.
Eminent Hindi poets like Varun Chaturvedi, Sushil Sseul from Jaipur, Subrokant
Sharma and Monica from Delhi and Punjabi poets like Jaswant Deed, Surjiot
Judge, Dr Gurcharan Kaur and Artindar Sandhu will be participating for the
same.”

“Besides all the above mentioned poets,
there will be Nepali poets like Kalingpon from West Bengal, Bheema Rai, Theeka
Bhai, Sudhir Chathri, Lekhnath Chatri, Manoj and Bhaotti Subhash Rai,” says
Wagh.

The event is being organised by Kala
Academy and is being supported by the Directorate of Official Language
Department, Directorate of Art and Culture and Department of Tourism. Eminent
Goan writers advocate Uday Bhembre and Professor Gopal Rao Mayekar will grace
the inaugural function.
