If the muse inspires the master, then young
designer Stephany D’Souza is right on cue. Inspired by the fabric itself, her
couture creations are creating quite a stir. “My inspiration is always the
fabric. In fact the fall and feel of the fabric guide the label design
sensibility,” avers this Siolim-based designer who launched her line ‘Stephany’
way back in 2011.
Her haute, elegant and trendy minimalistic
creations were soon to make a mark, sharing shelf-space at high-end designer
stores across India. Her selection at the Lakme Fashion Week Gen-Next Show in
March 2013 came as no surprise. “It’s definitely not easy to get through the
participation for the Lakme Fashion Week, with over thousands of applicants
from all over India and a Jury of some of the well known names in the fashion
industry. It was a rush nonetheless,” affirms Stephany who views the Lakme
Fashion Week (LFW) as a “perfect gateway for designers to showcase their talent
on a national platform.”
Stephany doubled her innings at the
Mercedes Benz Asia Fashion Week in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 2014
thereafter. An alumna of fashion designing at the Government Polytechnic in
Altinho Panjim, she has indeed managed to take her ‘designing’ dreams to
greater heights.
Invited for the second time to participate
at LFW 2015, Stephany is elated. “The Stephany – W|F’ 15
Collection exudes a very minimal understated luxury. It’s about the
simplicity in the flow of fabrics in delicate drapes and relaxed
silhouettes. A colour blocked palette of pastel mint and peach, a splash
of vibrant azure, lime and orange contrasted with sandstone beige dominates the
collection, all in pure silks,” she reveals of her forthcoming haute couture
collection at the prestigious LFW 2015.
Having carved a niche for herself, this
creative designer is nevertheless not one to rest on her laurels. The future to
her looks as bright as her ramp-stirring designs.
