The Archbishop of Goa
and Daman Rev Fr Filipe Neri Ferrao
said that education should not just ‘inform’ but also ‘form’ and ‘transform’.
His grace called upon the people to be the ‘salt’ of the earth and ‘light’ to
the world’. The Archbishop was speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural
function of St Andrew’s Higher Secondary School building at Vaddem in Dabolim
in presence of Panchayati Raj Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Carlos
Almeida, MMC Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar, industrialist and philanthropist
Narayan Bandekar, parish priest of St Andrew’s Church Fr Gabriel Coutinho,
parish priest of Our Lady of Hope church, Chinchinim, Fr. Antonio Da Costa,
manager of St Andrew’s HSS Fr Camilo Dias, Fr Joevit D’Costa, Fr James Torres e
Silva, Principal of St Andrew’s HSS Walter Cabral, members of the Fabrica and
others. The function was attended by a large gathering of parishioners and
people of all walks of life.
The
building was inaugurated by former parish priest of St Andrew’s church, Vasco,
Fr Jose Antonio Costa who was the brain behind the project. The Archbishop
blessed the premises by sprinkling holy water in all the classrooms and
laboratories. The parish priest Fr Gabriel Coutinho thanked the builders, the
architects and all the parishioners for making the dream of the new building
for the Higher Secondary school a reality. He said that the place had the right
ambience for students to excel in studies and other activities like sports and
music.The Principal of the Higher Secondary School Walter Cabral proposed the
vote of thanks. This was followed by a small and lively entertainment program
put up by the students of the school
