Milagres Socio-Cultural Sports and Film Craft Academy staged a Lenten tiatr ‘Ieiat ani Polleliat’ in opera style on triple stage.
The stage unfolds to a scene where Angel Gabriel (Crystal Fernandes) brings the good news to Mother Mary (Salome D’Souza), followed by the visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth (Neziah Bagul).
The story moves to a rich family where Celine (Celina Pereira) and her son Maison (Sameer Gadekar) reside together. In the poor family, there’s Sharlett (Wilma Fernandes), who is in love with Maison. Shyna (Sydel Mendes) loves Maison on the sly and cannot stand his relationship with Sharlett.
Shyna works out a wicked plan to do away with Sharlett’s involvement with Maison. Meanwhile, Maison meets with an accident and is disabled at home. His mother also turns mentally disturbed.
Maison is hapless and has no one to assist him at home. Will Shyna succeed in her wicked mission? Will Sharlett be rewarded for her faithfulness towards Maison and will she get back her lover?
Lenten tiatr ‘Ieiat ani Polleiat’ by Milagres Carneiro has a story to relate and the incidents brought in the main plot call for introspection. There are several Biblical scenes wrapped in the entire presentation and a triple stage helps in the execution of various scenes, including the washing of disciples’ feet, Last Supper, carrying of the Cross and Crucifixion.
As the tiatr progresses, a priest (Anthony Fernandes) steps in with food for the soul. He shares many spiritual things which help the audience to reflect and mend ways.
All the artistes have played their respective characters efficiently. Celina is good as the mother while Sameer has extended good support to her as a son. Wilma as fiancée is equally good opposite Sameer and Sydel in the negative role adds colour to the presentation.
For some lighter moments on stage, Salome D’Souza as Paskin and Savio Pinto as Pasku are equally good and body movements and dialogue delivery by the latter deserve appreciation.
In the section of songs, there are solos from Tony de Ribandar and Succor de Santa Cruz which invite the listeners to ponder on several issues. Renditions by Gail Colaco, Soloman D’Souza, Vera Pereira, Shaboneer Coelho, Jenicia Mascarenhas and Amrasha Fernandes help the audience to carry a message or two back home. Vitorin Araujo and his team provided good live music offstage.
In the Biblical scenes, all the artistes did a fine job. Valerian Fernandes projected himself as Jesus while Salome D’Souza enacted the role of Mother Mary. Neziah Bagul presented herself as Elizabeth, while Jacinto Pereira enacted the role of Judas.
The stage sets by Benson, Anthony and Densil and the execution of lights by Raviraj were equally good. Overall it’s a good presentation during the season of Lent, inviting the people for reflection and change of heart.
