Famous
on the cuisine circuit for its unique food and flavours, imprinted with the
influences of the many dynasties and Portuguese-era, Goa has long been a
favourite food destination. However, what remains hidden are the many regional
variations to the local cuisine that are equally rich in flavour and history.
“The festival will highlight Goan cuisine, in both the vegetarian and
non-vegetarian segments. As people are aware, Goan cuisine covers Saraswat
Hindu food as well as others such those of Portuguese influences. What many do
not know is that there are many regional variations to these foods. There are
many aspects that are unique to Goa. The festival seeks to encompass these
culinary trends in Goa and blend it with a cultural festival that also
showcases a Goan fashion designer, local bands and musicians,” avers Director
of Tourism, Ameya Abhyankar.
While
reiterating that “music is a specific platform to add vibrancy to a cultural
festival”, Abhyankar also points out that the inclusion of two of India’s best
rock bands – Indus Creed, Parikrama and a North Eastern band, Colours, will
allow for an intermingling of cultures and an opportunity, particularly for
Goan youth, to witness these bands playing live and also for them to interact
and learn from these inter-cultural exchanges. This also holds good for the
dance performance by ‘India’s Got Talent’ winners – Prince Dance Group. “I
think Goa already has a vibrant cultural space and a festival such as this
gives them another opportunity to come out in large numbers. The USP of the
festival is good food and good music, supporting its main aim to showcase Goa’s
unique cuisine, to be enjoyed by one and all,” he maintains.

Revived
three years ago, the festival, which generally coincides with the Carnival
Festival, had to be postponed to its present date due to the Zila Parishad
elections. “This year around, we will have 70 participating stalls in the food
court, showcasing authentic Goan cuisine both in the vegetarian and
non-vegetarian segments with regional variations as well as sweets and other
delicacies,” he reiterates.
