Carnival brings with it great
pomp and gaiety and people just can’t get enough of the fun time once the
floats are over. So once you are done with the Carnival Parade in Panjim, the
opening day of the four day festival, head to Garcia de Orta, you won’t be
disappointed.
The Panjim Carnaval Committee and
the citizens of Panjim will be organising the third edition of the People’s
Carnival at the Samba Square. Receiving overwhelming response for the past two
years, the Panjim Carnaval Committee is excited to present the best of music
and food with a variety of activities during the five days of festivities at
Panjim’s Garcia de Orta.

Commitee, Sanjit Rodrigues says, “Every year, we work on a theme for the
Carnival. This year is being observed as the International Year of Light 2015
(IYL 2015) which is a United Nations observance. The festival will feature a
lot of Samba lights. The aim of the People’s Carnival is to revive the old
tradition of celebrating this festival. We have great people in our team like
Francisco Martins, Messias Tavares etc who make the festival a success with the
decorations. While planning the festival for the first year, we wanted a
connecting point for Goa and we found it best for event based entrainment in
Panjim. This year, Argentinean band Rio De Samaya will perform on February 15,
the traditional Red and Black dance day.”
The Carnival celebrations will be
held from February 13 to 17, 2015 from 6pm to 10pm. There will be various
programmes for children and King Momo Geovani Santimano will also be in
attendance on one of the days. Tony Dias, Member of Panjim Carnaval Committee,
says, “The Samba Square has been a great hit with the people and we had people
not only from Panjim but even from Margao, Mapusa and other places in Goa make it a point to
come for the festival. We want to take the festivity to a higher level every
year. This year, we will have two bands performing per day, including bands
like Cascades, Smooth, Archies, Purple Rain, Crimson Tide, Valentinos and Veeam
Braganza. There will be 18 stalls, serving sumptuous food, drinks and wines.
Over the past two years, we had footfalls of over 2000 per day.”
The festival is open to all and
the celebration brings together children, adults, musicians and artists who
enjoy the spirit of Carnival. Children can enjoy an evening of competitions.
The great attraction is the traditional Red and Black dance which will be held
on February 15, 2015.
