The results are out and students from the 10th and 12th standard are exploring options
academically. Many have applied and hope their applications will be accepted.
For those interested in taking up science they will have to appear for an
entrance exam and so they will have to wait. For others though the process and
wait is on.
Akash Sagarchari who scored 69.83 percent
in tenth class wishes to study science but that will take time since details of
the entrance exam has not been declared as yet. Sagar, his father, said his son
was feeling quite nervous about the entire situation. Sagar said “He knows he
has to study, revise for the entrance exam but he tends to get angry when he is
told to study. He does not like commerce. We have an automobile business. He
wants to study science and wants to get into the mechanical line”. Sagar said
he hoped everything worked out fine because it would be better if his son
attended lectures in class but he was also clear it would have to be conducted
with all the SOPS in place.
Vedika Parulekar is now waiting for an
answer from the Goa Engineering College. Having cleared the 12th standard, she
intends to study Computer engineering. She said “I have not received a
confirmation of admission. I would prefer to attend classes’ offline. I want to
sit in class and listen to the lectures face to face. It makes for a better
experience.” Her cousin Avisha Parulekar who has just passed out of school said
she wanted to join the science stream. She said she had not received her pass
certificate but was already preparing for the entrance exam. Avisha said she
was revising her math and science studies. Avisha said “I would like to do
something in interior design if not then something else. Let’s see how it all
works out.” Avisha hoped the classes would be held offline because the
environment was so different as compared to sitting in front of a laptop. She
also said it was better sitting with friends than sitting alone at home.
Shailesh Naik whose daughter Sailee Naik has cleared the tenth
standard and is awaiting the details for the entrance exams to be announced
said he hoped classes were held offline but with all the procedures followed
strictly. He said “It is difficult to conduct classes online because
connectivity is a problem. It is difficult for students to understand what is
being said. I have already paid three installments for her college education
and one more remains”.
Maverick Alvares, a student of Don Bosco was looking to shift to
a new college and had already applied for another college in Panjim. He said “I
am a student in the Commerce stream and would like to get the full experience,
meaning coming over to class and studying. This of course must be done with the
stipulations laid down by the government being followed strictly”. He went on
to say that it was quite tough studying online because of connectivity issues
and now with the rain also falling it was even worse. He hoped the new academic
year would be a better experience for all concerned.
Divya Talada who scored 85 percent in the 12th result said she
had applied at Father Agnels and intended to continue her focus on studying
commerce. She expressed the hope that classes would be conducted offline
because as she put it there was nothing better than face to face interaction.
She said “Everything is new at a new college and I want to experience it. I
hope it all works out fine.”
The young Andria Coutinho who studied at Regina Mundi Vasco was
keen on studying arts. The very shy Andria said she wanted to train to become a
chef but admitted she was not sure as yet. She however felt classes would be
conducted online given the situation on the ground. She hoped the situation
would improve during the course of the academic year.
One
can only hope everyone gets what they want and everyone is safe in the new
academic year that will commence shortly.
