Shooting a love sequence in dreamy Manali

Joywin Fernandes, the director of the Konkani film, ‘Fotting No. 1’, is excited about shooting the song, ‘You make me Crazy’, in Manali, a first in Konkani cinema. Lead actors of the film, Brijesh Kakodkar and Sonika Shetye, shot the song in cool temperatures as a crew from Manali got behind the camera. The team shares their experience

Joywin Fernandes from Sancoale has been known for experimenting in Konkani cinema.
While it is easy to dream about shooting a film across the globe, it is very
difficult when you have constraints of finance. After over 15 years in the
Konkani film industry, Joywin finally had his dream fulfilled when he recently
shot a dream sequence song, ‘You make me Crazy’, for his film, ‘Fotting No. 1’,
in Manali. The film is written and directed by Joywin and produced by Uday
Salkar of Vaibhav Productions. The music director is Elick Vaz.

“‘You make me Crazy’ is Goa’s first
celluloid Konkani comedy film song to be shot in Manali. The song stars Brijesh
Kakodkar and Sonika Shetye. It’s a dream love sequence and a very important
song of the film,” says Joywin. The cast of the film includes Uday Salkar,
Prince Jacob, Comedian Agostinho, Luis Bachan and Kerryann Albuquerque. The
song has been written by Elick Vaz and was sung by Elick and Elaine Pinto.
Besides this song, another song of the film is planned to be shot in Thailand
as 10 per cent of the film shooting is still pending.

Speaking about his inspiration for the song, Joywin says, “I
visited Manali twice for holidays with my wife. The place is wonderful so I
always had a wish to shoot a song there. But we neither had the right situation
nor budget to shoot for my previous films. When this film was started, there
was a sequence and our producer Uday Salkar agreed to go for it. I was always
fascinated with Yash Raj Films and the locations they used for their films.”

Brijesh Kakodkar shares his experience, “This is the first time
someone has shot out of Goa, especially in Manali which was truly magical. It
was difficult there because of the cold but now I have seen the shots and it
looks really nice. It will be a delight for people to watch it on the big
screen. The landscapes are breathtaking. The food was delicious too and overall
it was a great experience.”

A
team of three cinematographers and two helpers went up the Manali team as the
song was shot in -6 degrees. The cast was prepared for the shoot in Goa itself
as the choreographer Mangurish of the Mesmerizers dance troupe trained them for
three days in Goa. “We went to Manali for seven days and we shot the song for
four days. We had to plan the shoot schedule according to the weather. Our
schedule was from 9am and wound up at 4pm. On the first day, we wanted to shoot
in the evening but it was snowing heavily that we couldn’t complete the shoot.
The next evening, we got heavy rainfall. The people were very kind and helpful.
We felt were comfortable and emotional on the last day of the shoot,” says
Joywin, adding that the song will be released on social media one month before
the film release.
