The 10th and 11th standard
exams are important landmarks in the school and college career of a student.
These are very strange times and it begs the questions whether holding these
exams in May, when trains have restarted and there’s an influx of people from
COVID red zones
Exams are not the end of the world.
These are difficult times and let us not worry about exams. Exams are not
anything in life, it just means moving up a step. Learning is more
important outcome than exams. No I don’t think the exams should take place

That is the prerogative of the Goa
board, board exams have to be conducted and they have got the approval by the
state government.
Shailesh Zingde Deputy Director

Since if you want to hold exams you
have to remember section 144 is in force and more than 5 cannot be together.
How can you then have hundreds of students together? What is your logic?.
Secondly the instructions are that the headmaster has to take responsibility of
travel. How is it possible with public transport not functioning? We have
several students in rural Goa who will not have internet connectivity. The
government had Balraths, what arrangements are being made to use them? Children
will always congregate in groups, how are you going to handle that. The general
sentiment amongst students and parents is that they are not keen on the exams- Sabina Martins teacher Sharda Mandir Panjim
I believe things are going from bad
to worse. Right now, it is better and they should go ahead and conduct them and
be done with it. I hope they don’t keep having so many gaps. If it cannot be
done then they should find other ways of promoting them. If the 10th is
delayed then the start of the 11th standard will also be
delayed. Goa is in a better position than most. I believe it should be
done and dusted- Srabonee Thakar teacher, GVN
Utkarsh Vidya Mandir, Ponda
Holding exams during the time when
there is an ongoing COVID19 pandemic is not at all advisable. It has created
lot of fear and panic among people. Students are not at all in a state of mind
to answer any exams. It is also difficult for all students to maintain social
distancing and wear masks during examination and also be attentive to answer
exams. Also the extreme harsh summer heat will worsen the situation. Some
students may be stuck away from their homes and unable to prepare. The health
of students should be taken as a top priority compared to studies at these
moments– Vikram Verlekar, Parent
We are right now in a green zone
and with these delays the children I am sure are under tremendous stress which
is excruciating. There have been no new cases so let us go ahead and conduct
these exams by following all the precautions– Meenacshi
Martins Actor
Colleges, schools, courts, theatres
and malls are areas where there will always be contact and it will be difficult
to maintain social distancing. For 10th standard kids, the
basic issue is about going to the 11th. They could have a system
where they could conduct some proficiency test. Class ten exams isn’t a serious
issue, Class 12 is more important because various boards are involved
like ICSE, CBSE and the Goa University, so the number of students could be
less. The 12th standard exams could be held after due
consideration– Cleofato Coutinho
