Department of Zoology of
Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women organised ‘Fish Fest’,
an annual two-day academic and culinary event on October 27 and 28, 2019. The
aim of the event was to acquaint the students with the fish diversity of Goa
and to promote entrepreneurship among the students.
Events of Day 1 included
‘Matsya Ruchi’, a culinary competition, and ‘Matsya Nakshi’, hand painting
competition inspired by fish forms. A canteen serving fish-based snacks was
also organised on the occasion.
The second day of the
event had Pradeep M Gawas, Fisheries officer, Directorate of Fisheries, Governemnt
of Goa as the guest speaker. He delivered his talk on ‘Fishing Activities Along Mhadei River andValue-Added Fish Products’ and also
spoke about traditional fishing activities and demonstrated a few of fishing
practices and fish packing. A fish
themed Couplet competition ‘Couplets and Cutlets’ was also organised.
Winners
of the competitions were felicitated. Ms. Andrea D’Souza compered the event.
