It’s the middle of May, and temperatures have soared to the high thirties, ushering in
muggy days and sweltering weather. To top it off, we’ve been seeing random rain
storms at night and during the day. While the rain cools things off
temporarily, the sun shines relentlessly within hours, making things heat up
again in no time! With the weather in flux – and not to mention the puddles and
slippery surfaces being left by the rain – the concern that’s bound to pop up
in every woman’s head is “What do we wear!”
So how are the women of Goa dealing with it? With the weather
being a tad unpredictable, most believe in preparation, so as to be ready for
rain and heat alike. “For me, the fluctuating weather makes my decision process
of what to wear longer than usual, because I now have 2 or 3 factors to think about!
It ultimately leads to me carrying an extra piece of clothing along wherever I
go, and thereby adjusting my outfit on the go – such as a sweater, a scarf or
even a parasol, to protect myself from the sun and rain,” says Desmona D’Mello.
Wearing clothing that will not be affected by the rain is
another key decision. Frederica Coelho mentions, “I’ve found wearing shorts and
slippers rather useful these days. Whether I’m going to the market or just a
stroll or even an outing, wearing shorts helps me beat the heat a bit, and I
don’t mind getting wet if I’m not wearing trousers. And since I wear slippers,
my feet get to breathe, and I don’t have to worry about spoiling my shoes on
wet roads.” Darlene Fernandes adds, “The weather is crazy these days. To tackle
the heat I wear crop tops all the time, and shorts, palazzos or jumpsuits –
anything loose and airy. Sunglasses are a must for me, and all-season slip-ons,
because I never know when it might start pouring!”
In
dressing for the weather, according to fashionistas across the state, lightness
is key! Clothes in light colours and light fabrics will keep you cool and
comfortable in the heat. And just in case the rains decide to make an untimely
appearance, carrying a small umbrella, and wearing a pair of sensible sandals,
is probably a good idea too! Keeping these tips in mind, you’ll get through the
summer comfortably and in style.
Cafe speaks to fashion bloggers
who give their say on the latest trends for the season
The weather has been fluctuating lately – but it’s
still the last month of summer and we’re yet to transition into monsoon. Peak
summer calls for loose and comfortable fabrics like cotton or linen, which are
easy and breezy. Opt for light colours like white or currently trending
pastels, which reflect heat unlike dark colours which soak it up and make you
sweat. Go for a white shirt and team it up with some sexy shorts. Floral
dresses could also showcase your peppy side. You could even wear a kimono to
add oomph to a casual laidback outfit. And remember, the weather is going to
change and we are already experiencing freak rains – so make sure you carry a
mini umbrella or a casual jacket to protect yourself… and your outfits!

Pastel hues, floral prints, and light fabrics are
my go-to staples for a summer wardrobe. When it’s blazing hot in Goa, all I can
think of wearing are my easy-breezy dresses and gladiators. I love how
statement accessories can help elevate your minimal looks with tassel earrings,
belt bags, oversized hoops or vintage sunglasses. Co-ord sets in floral or
plaid prints are also a wise investment for summer, as you can style them in
multiple ways. For the working woman, high paperbag palazzos and airy blouses
could keep them cool yet stylish!

With the blazing summer sun and the monsoons
kicking in, we tend to get really irritable and look for comfort over style.
But who says fashion and comfort don’t go hand in hand? Bring out those summer
cotton whites and style ‘em up with funky jewellery! My go-to this summer is
wide or boot cut pants with crop tops in bright poppy colours and prints paired
with statement earrings. Play safe and bury your white sneakers deep in your
closet and go for a trusted sturdy pair of sandals on a rainy day! Most importantly,
remember, be it summer or monsoon, style is never out of season!
