Summer is undoubtedly one of the best seasons to enjoy
a wide variety of juicy, sweet and tangy fruits in Goa.
Childhood stories are abound on how the hills provided
the best fruits and berries that satisfied the stomach and the
soul. Whether it is collecting kantam and Chunna by avoiding
the thorny branches and twigs, aiming stones at the sweet
yellow mangos on the trees, enjoying the shade of the cashew
tree while collecting the ripe cashews and nuts or carefully
extracting bibbe from the raw cashews, summer holidays were
spent leisurely travelling on the hills surrounding the villages.
Right from the white and pink hued zaam to bright red Binda
and the dark purple blackish Jamun, all fruits were relished with
the same hope of collecting some more fruits the next day.
Now the same fruits make their way to the markets which
can be enjoyed without much efforts. The season
brings in an nostalgic feeling with
stories to share with the
young.
