Shenergy,
(shenergy.in), a unique initiative
on women empowerment, recently presented its fourth event in Goa. Titled, ‘The
Beauty & The Feast’ the event was a unique fashion show that broke
stereotypes and celebrated beauty the way it comes, in all shapes, sizes and
colours; the models were people from regular backgrounds from Goa as opposed to
professional models. The show gave the common (wo)man the opportunity to walk
the ramp and showcase the beauty within them.
There was also a presentation by COOJ foundation, an NGO that
works in the space of mental health and other related spheres.
For the fashion show, the theme revolved around the idea that
fashion should be wearable, affordable, functional and accessible to all and
not just for a certain body size or the ramp. New and upstart designers got
visibility and opportunity to showcase their talents.
The designers included Hesha Harmalkar, Joyce Teles, Vibha
Rewankar, Rachna Sharma , Ishika Latwal, Ritu Puri and Kim Pereira, who curated
the Shenergy Collection, the proceeds of which go to Ish Kripa Sadan, a shelter
for women and girls in distress.
The showstopper for the show was an exclusive Shenergy sari with
works of painters Bhagvatinath and Amita Bamba and poet Bani Marathe printed on
it.
The theme of the collections ranged from Purab Paschim (Indo-
Western), Chameleon (multipurpose clothes), Rebirth (Upcycling), Royal Funky
and a special Shenergy sari collection.
The show also had many talented women performing. Performances
included zumba (Centina Fernandes), lavani (Janhavi Deshprabhu), Bollywood
classical (Moumita), guitar (Sari Geron), singers (Sonia Chauhan, Ayesha
Retro), dance and speech by little Kamakhya Singh, stand up (Kanan), dance
(Jovita), hoop (Nikita Jadhv) and small children from DFDA performing a
contemporary dance.
“It
was a fun filled happy event, where women and young adults came together
collectively as a community and ‘shenergised’ their positive energy for a good
cause,”says Sonu Dabral, the founder of Shenergy.
