The colours and floating wonders at the Tripurari Poornima Festival

Culture, Department of Tourism, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Department
of Information & Publicity, other Government departments and Deepawali
Utsav Samittee, a local cultural organization from Vitthalapur, Sankhali every
year celebrates ‘Tripurari Poornima Festival’ on the bank of river Valvonti at
Vitthalapur, Sankhali, as a state festival. The festival showcases various
traditional activities like sailing of traditional lamps in the river Valvonti
(Deepdan), releasing of traditional ‘Saarangas’- handcrafted balloons, in the
sky and ‘Tripurasur-Vadh’, a cultural programme. The main feature of the festival
is the spectacular state level boat competition that is held in the basin of
river Valvonti. More than 50 handcrafted creative boats participating from
different parts of the state are sailed in the river.

This year, the festival was held on November 7 and 34 groups
from all over Goa participated in the procession on the river. The evening
began with the procession of Lord Shrikrishna and sailing of traditional lamps
in the river Valvonti (Deepdan), presentation of cultural programme,
‘Raasikranjan Geet Nritya Avishkar’ by Alankar, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Palkhi
procession of Shree Vithal Rakhumai, traditional boat show, Tripurari Vadh and
finally the release of Saranga in the sky followed by the traditional
fireworks.

Chief
Minister Pramod Sawant attended the traditional celebration of Tripurari
Pournima Festival along with Govind Gaude, Art & Culture Minister, Rohan
Khaunte, Tourism Minister, Premendra Vishnu Shet, Mayem MLA, and over a
thousand Goans who enjoyed the sights and sounds of the festival.
