THE G.O.A.T. SEEKS GREENER PASTURES. AND GOA REACTS

It was possibly the biggest development in football in the past couple of days. Arguably Lionel Messi, football’s GOAT (Greatest of all time) expressing an interest in moving on from Barcelona due to the incompetence he claimed he saw around him. The trashing the team received at the hands of Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League was shocking, to say the least. Its aftermath was the sacking of the coach and the decision to put up a large percentage of the team for sale. This decision by Messi however though not totally unexpected, sent a chill down the spines of not just Barca fans but the football world at large Cafe spoke to football fans to understand what they felt about this development and where he might go on to play.

It is very difficult to digest this news. I never thought this day would come. He once said the day he stops enjoying playing he would consider leaving and it surely looks like he is not enjoying himself anymore and I can fully understand this feeling as I too have left a club in my playing days when I didn’t enjoy it anymore. Man City looks like the best bet with Pep at the helm and the style of play he enjoys. PSG would be the other option to link up with his good pal Neymar. I was an out and out fan of Barcelona because of Messi since 2005– Joshuah Vaz – Margao

It was a big shock to all of us after hearing this news, but I feel he has given everything for the club in the past 2 decades and won every trophy and it’s time he looks for a new challenge before he retires. I feel he should join Man City because it is the only club who can afford to pay his wages and he would fit right in. I am it should be noted a diehard Liverpool fan– Roy Mathew Donapaula

Messi announcing he wants to leave Barca has created a ripple in the world. Everyone’s talking about it. It’s like Michael Jordan retirement saga all over again. I think he’ll join Manchester City and reunite with Pep Guardiola. He clearly wants to win and City looks perfectly set for him. As an Arsenal fan, I don’t even have hopes of him coming to Emirates and wanting to smash FC Midjetland 10-0– Nishad Hegde Desai Goa

The board is in complete shock, Leo doesn’t trust the board. He clearly doesn’t believe they are capable of reversing Barça’s situation. The board are unable to build a competitive team as of now. Some teammates have been disrespected.I feel the only way to stop Messi leaving is if the President of the club resigns and a new sporting plan is executed. I am a Barcelona supporter and I am hoping for the best.  I’d love to see him play under Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Imagine the magic he will create on the English Turfs– Patty Palyekar, Panjim

If Messi finally leaves Barcelona , I will thank him for the greatest 11 years of my life, I simply cannot fit all I want to say about Leo. He made me enjoy Barcelona since I was 9 years old. I am a Manchester City fan and it will be a great joy to see him at this club. I just want to see him happy again and hope the club he joins gets him some more trophies- Jesus Pereira, Margao

I think it’s a very sad day if you’re a Barcelona fan. On the brighter side at least now Barca can stop depending on a single player. Messi can take on a new challenge. He should join an EPL maybe Arsenal if they can afford him– Regina Monteiro, Panjim

Messi has been a great asset to the club. In my opinion, right now he has become bigger than Barcelona. He is disappointed with the Board that has spent 350 million Euros on 3 players. It seems like he is low balling the club to sack the board members. I feel he will stay at the club and President Josep Batomeu will resign. If he does leave he should join PSG and help them win that Champions League trophy– Conrad BarretoMargao
