Bacardi NH7 Weekender Pune has managed to cover all genres with their 2018 lineup. The
annual music festival announced headliners, including American guitar virtuoso
Joe Satriani, who last performed in India in 2005.
In 2005, when
guitarist Joe Satriani was on his debut India tour, his show in Kolkata was cut
short, much to the disappointment of his fans. But some of the adrenaline
packed moments at his India shows — in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata — were
part of Satriani’s eponymous Live DVD that released in 2006. This year, the
instrumental guitar virtuoso returns to headline the three-day NH7 Weekender
Festival in Pune. Fans can expect Satch, as the guitar hero is known, to
perform from his album What Happens Next, which released earlier this year,
besides music from his more popular albums such as Flying in a Blue Dream.
The line up, which
was revealed this week also includes big names on the international music scene
such as Australian soul quarter Hiatus Kaiyote to French multi-instrumentalist
FKJ.
The festival line-up
also includes Chennai vocalist Benny Dayal with his band Funktuation, New
Delhi-based rock outfit, The Local Train and electronica artiste Dualist
Inquiry, also from the capital and Mumbai bass prodigy Mohini Dey. As has been
the norm over the past few years, NH7 Weekender will also appeal to fans of
stand-up comedy with names such as Radhika Vaz, Sumukhi Suresh, Rohan Joshi and
Ashish Shakya taking to the stage.
Also headlining the
festival are celebrated names such as Hindustani classical vocalist Shubha
Mudgal from New Delhi and siblings Salim and Sulaiman Merchant who will
represent the Hindi film music scene in the country. Another contemporary
artiste from the city at the festival is electronic music producer Ritviz
Srivastava, who goes by the stage name, Ritviz.
Other big draws
include American prog metal band The Contortionist, Irish post-rocker’s God Is
An Astronaut, Australian instrumental rock group sleepmakeswaves and more.
The
Pune edition of the festival is slated to take place from December 7 to 9,
2018. – Agencies
