As we all know, india became a democratic nation when the Constitution was
drafted and signed in the year 1950. It is since then that Indians celebrate
Republic Day. It is agreed that in 1947 we became an independent country.
However, a land cannot be called a nation unless a set of rules and regulations
are formed to deposit boundaries, to maintain peace and harmony along with
freedom and certain rights for the citizens. But how does a citizen of India
make use of the rights provided to them by the Constitution?
Young Goa
shares its opinion about the duties and rights the Constitution affords us:
The constitutional privileges
bestowed upon us are indubitably a boon. Being an educator, I strongly perceive
that I have a crucial role to motivate and formulate a dynamic force of young
India, the student community, that doesn’t shy away from its responsibilities
towards being an active participant in the well-being of their country. Rules
are essential principles that one mustn’t just follow faithfully, but live with
conviction. These rules are contrived bearing in mind our own welfare, so why
shoot yourself in the foot when you can fly without wings! Lead a profilic
existence of responsibility and liberation.
NATASHA WHEELER, PORVORIM
We can make use of these rights and
duties in a responsible, judicious and socially conscientious manner.
It is highly important to follow the
rules in a democracy. It makes us disciplined, peaceful and law-abiding
citizens, thus encouraging harmonious community living. Without adherence to
rules we would invite anarchy.
DR GLENIS MENDONCA, PANJIM
We have all
fundamental rights framed in our Indian Constitution but all rights are not
implemented properly. Educated people always abide by the law but sometimes
there are certain rights such as the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression,
Right to Freedom of Movement, Right to Equality that already exist but are
still supressed by certain forces. That is what holds us back. We all should be
treated equally.
PRAJYOT VERLEKAR, COLVALE
Living an
exemplary life can send positive vibes to youngsters. Each one of us has a
voice; every voice matters. Each child must be encouraged and allowed to bloom
to be a thinker. We must not blurr the future of young intellects, even before
they are born. Children come from different backgrounds but keeping them safe
is a wonderful gift that democracy has blessed us with. Rules are like a frame
that makes our life more beautiful and disciplined. If we don’t follow them and
do whatever we wish, it can create chaos in society. Let us be the instruments
to keep this cradle swinging…
