THE SKY IS BLUE

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament has reached its business end. Excitement
builds up as India faces off against the Kiwis today in the semi finals and a
billion people will hope and pray India make it to the finals.

These occasions are also an opportunity
for business outlets to generate extra income. It is not unusual for restaurants
and hotels to come up with special schemes to entice customers to watch the
game at their outlet. The restaurants in the state all show the game and
sporting bars on the Calangute belt are doing quite well.

For Jeronimo Countinho of 3 Crownz Sports
Bar, business has been very good. He says, “We are the only people open here
now, so people have been coming to the sports bar and having a good time. We
have multiple TV outlets where people can watch in comfort, eat and drink
whatever they want. They have been coming in numbers to watch the India centric
matches over the last few weeks and I expect a good presence during the
semi-finals.” If an outlet on the tourist belt is doing well then restaurants
in Panjim are also bracing for the match. Down The Road, a popular pub and
restaurant in Panjim, is centre of activity during major sporting events and
obviously the world cup is no exception

Lyndon Furtado of Down the Road said they
had special schemes for customers across beverages and the response had been
very good over the past month.

The landmark Clube Nacional is also
telecasting the match and expects a decent crowd during the match.

In the South the iconic Martin’s Corner will also be showing the
match Since it is a popular place, he says, people will come and eat and watch
the game, mentions a staff member.

For the World Cup, Tinge has a huge screen showing the matches
and retailing alcohol at MRP till July 20, 2019. The spokesperson for the
restaurant says that the blend of spices and flavours at ‘Tinge’ comes from the
land of the coasts.

Anand Chatterjee, GM Planet Hollywood, says that guests could
watch the game at the Heart Bar or avail of a special deal at the Cigar Lounge

This however has not been an opportunity taken advantage of by
all hotels. A couple of five-star properties say that they will be going about
their operations as usual and may consider something special if India reaches
the finals.

But
the sky will surely be blue on Tuesday and so will the earth and all else for
Indians all over the world, whether at the Old Trafford at Manchester or
anywhere else.
