The COMO India
Beach Fashion Week 2017, held at Goa Marriot Resort and Spa, had its focus on fashion and brought
in a mix of budding and veteran fashion designers under one roof, allowing for
a symbiotic growth of fashion in the country. The three day affair that began
on October 26, 2017 gave a sense of homecoming to all those regulars and a
sense of anticipation for the first-timers.
Known for marrying
the traditional with the contemporary with ease, Anand Kabra opened the COMO
India Beach Fashion Week 2017 with his fabulous destination wedding collection
that put his skill on full display. Kabra’s collection comprised mainly of
festive separates, with jackets, crop tops, skirts and anarkalis. Day 1 then
saw Nidhi Munim present her swim wear and cruise wear collection followed by
the Anupamaa Dayal who displayed her collection, ‘Le Optimiste’. Anupamaa’s
love for tradition shone through with her patchwork, tassels, and bits of print
and embroidery that added a playful and happy touch to her garments. The
highlight of the evening, however, was the COMO COLLECTIVE show that rocked the
stage with the latest in swimwear, resort wear, cocktail as well as luxury prêt
collections, with the showcasing designers: Rocky S, Anupamaa Dayal and
Manoviraj Khosla showing a trend setting collection.
Day 2 saw designer
duo Sukriti and Akriti Grover enthral the audience with their destination
bridal wear collection. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi was the showstopper,
looking splendid in one of their ethereal creations. Goan designer duo
MapxencaRS presented their first ever prêt line, ‘An autumn in Japan’. The most
talked show of the day was Vida Collection by the ace designer Rocky S that saw
influences and traces of the baroque and gothic time periods with dramatic
silhouettes and decorative prints for evening resort wear. Showstopper, Esha
Gupta added to the glamour with a superbly fitted ensemble. One of the veterans
of the Indian fashion industry, Pallavi Jaikishen ended the day with her
scintillating new cruise collection.
The designer trio –
Bhavana Pandey, Dolly Sidhwani and Nandita Mahtani hogged the limelight on Day
3, courtesy their brand new young and spirited Autumn Winter Collection under
their banner, LoveGen. ‘Made with Love, Made in India’ is their motto, with
each stylish garment sourced, styled and stitched in the country. The mage
highlight was undoubtedly the grand finale show by one of the biggest names of
Indian fashion industry, Vikram Phadnis who made a return to fashion after a
sabbatical of a year and half.
This
three day whirlwind event saw some offbeat and avant garde collection
showcased by designers like Anand Kabra, Rocky S, Akruti Sukruti, Pallavi
Jaikishen, Anupama Dayal, Ken Ferns and many more. The young designers like
Sania Shroff, Nazia Rahman, Kshitij Choudhary, Shazia Naik and Nazia Rahman
from Bangladesh made this most of this excellent opportunity to present their
designs to the audience. COMO India Beach Fashion Week did not only see the top
designers showcasing their creativity but it also saw the top celebrities like
Evelyn Sharma, Esha Gupta, Nidhi Agarwal and many more gracing the occasion.
