It is that time of the year when the schools are all shut. The kids are at home, watching television or playing some game online, or perhaps even chatting online. The holidays are pretty long and the children can get bored easily. These days however there are several avenues available for kids to participate in various activities and learn new skills.
For Ryan Rodrigues it is the time to send son Aden to summer camp where he will learn to play and have fun with kids his age. Ryan said “My son will interact and learn new skills, he will understand the importance of teamwork and learn new skills. My son has to learn to adapt to the world of tomorrow. He will also play futsal which will help him get the physical activity which is very important.”
For Vikram Verlekar life as a businessman may keep him on his toes but he is also focused on ensuring his daughter achieves her goals. He said there were a lot of summer camps where kids could learn new skills but as far as his daughter was concerned she was preparing for the table tennis national scheduled to be held in Indore. He said “ She trains between 5 and 8 in the morning and then 4-8 in the evening. She is the top ranked in Goa in the cadet sub junior level in the state and she has to train hard to stay at that position.”
Tanuja Kerkar, a housewife in Ponda said her son was registered for various activities like swimming at the sports complex. She said “It will be a good experience for him to be part of such activities. He will be part of a group and will learn how to interact with people and manage situations that may arise.”
As the world gets more complex and competitive, parents are preparing the kids to be ready for it. Dinesh Francis said he was sending his elder daughter for multiple activities to ensure she was busy and not bored at home. He said “ She attends the summer camp at the Bal Bhavan and also does her regular activities like sports, music which makes for a packed schedule.” He said it was important for children to learn skills so that they could manage in the world of tomorrow.
Steven Varghese who runs a business and has two young children, said his kids were busy playing football and were learning that if one wanted to win, it was important to play as a team and not as individuals. He said his kids preferred playing football online but he had threatened to lock them down if they went near the playstation. “Their stamina is improving and so is their appetite. I have nothing to complain,” he said.
This is possibly the best time of the year for young kids as they run around on the playground and generally have a wonderful time. It certainly brings back memories for everyone who is now slotted into the system of work and home. Those certainly were the days.
