This time, Goans will come on stage ‘virtually’ to revere and celebrate Konkani

The language for which Goans fought for, will not let COVID come in its way. Instead, the positive vaccine of creativity and talent of exponents of Konkani will be venerated, albeit online, on the 58 Foundation Day on the Konkani Bhasha Mandal on September 30. The winners of its yearly awards in the field of Literature, Service, Education, Journalism, Column Writing and Children’s Literature will speak during the course of this online event. The audience will be able to listen to the winners, who will be given a platform to share a few words. This event will incorporate various Konkani musical and dance performances to engage its audience in the best possible way through the online medium. The event will be streamed live on online platforms for Konkani lovers as well as friends and family of the participants and winners to witness the awards ceremony. The awards will be presented with the same once the Covid-19 pandemic situation is under control, once the COVID situation stabilises allowing the Mandal to organise a ceremony to present the respective winners, their awards. The President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Anwesha Singbal, said “We are doing this online because of the virus. The actual ceremony will be held a couple of months later once this virus is under control. The program will incorporate the viewpoints of all the winners and there will also be an entertainment show”. Speaking about the state of the language she said the number of books was increasing in the various scripts. The body was focussed on increasing the number of children’s books and had published around 500 titles both original and translations. In addition, now she said a lot of content was being generated online which was very encouraging. This was in audio and video format and this he said was a great development. The awards were judged by an eminent jury panel for the following categories: Literary, Literature, Service, Activism, Teaching and Journalism.
