The World Goa Day was celebrated with great
fervor on Saturday. This year of course due to the virus, the celebrations were
conducted online. Goan Diasporas based in Australia, Europe and the Americas
connected with each other online.This year the
organizers of the World Goa day contacted Lenoy Gomindes who has acquired a
name by composing music for albums, covers and bands. He is also talented
enough to record music at his studio and also direct videos. He composed the
song as well the music for Goa Noketr Udentichem”. The song highlights
the fact that Goa is the star of the east because of its beauty.
Tourists, he said flock to its beaches, mountains and don’t feel like going
back. The song highlights the contribution of the fisher folk who venture out
early in the morning to catch fish which is the staple diet of Goans. Music, he
pointed out in the song was flowing in the blood of the Goans. The song points
out that Goans who work abroad and on the ship as a sailor are always thinking
about Goa and hoping to God it remains safe and all Goans safe too. The song featured eight singers. Shunaina
Baptista one of the singers featured in the song said she was invited to be
part of the project by Lenoy. She said “It was the first time I was
involved in something like this for Goa but I have been singing for some time
now. We entered the studio and we did it in half an hour or slightly
more. Lenoy had everything in place and we just went in and hit our
stride so to speak. It was a nice experience.” Avito Menezes another singer who was part of
the project said it was a great experience and since they usually all worked
together for shows it was easy. Cielda Pereira another singer said the
experience was a little different from the regular experience. She said “This
time we went into a studio, recorded it very fast and then spent a day making a
video. It was great fun but it was so different. The song was then played
online at a particular time. It is so different from the live shows I
have been involved in on World Goa Day. Two years ago I performed in front of
Goans in the UK and it was very nice”. One can hope the sound of music that resonates
in the DNA of Goans continues to bring joy to people all over the world.
