The 23 budding singers are excited and anxiously waiting for
their big day, the finals of Goencho Avaz which will take place on July 26,
2014. Tuesday was rehearsal day and the Black Box of Ravindra Bhavan echoed
with the harmony of popular Konkani songs like ‘Meera Meera’, Ugdas Tuzo et al.
Speaking about making it to the finals, young participant, Fleur
Dias said, “I have made best use of the opportunity given by Herald Group. It
has been an honour for me to participate in the competition. The journey has
been nice and I have really enjoyed being part of the show.”
Another finalist, Cielda Pereira said that this competition
has been an ideal platform for promoting budding singers. “It has been a great
experience and I had no stage fear. The concept of singing old songs is a brilliant
one as people love hearing these classics,” she added.
For Sanford Fernandes, it is the first time that he has
participated in such a singing competition. “I have never thought that I would
reach this stage and I am excited to be part of the finalists.”
As the contestants got back to practising their songs, it
was evident from the melodious ambiance that the big day will indeed be a grand
affair with young talent taking you down memory lane with their singing as well
as guest performances by renowned Konkani artistes Lulu Fortes, Anthony San, Fr
Domnic Alvares and Akshadha Bandekar and performances by Dance Illusion and A
unit dance crew.
The contest will feature a delightful line up of Konkani
classics. Alison D’Souza will be singing ‘Mog Tuzo Kitlo Axelo’, Anson Gomes
‘Janet Ani Linet’, Avina Furtado ‘Suknnem Suknnem’, Carina D’Costa ‘Bomboichi
Birmutti’, Cedrick Pinto ‘Kalchi Koddi’, Cielda Pereira ‘Abghat Kelo’, Fleur
Dias ‘Ugdas Mhozo’, Karishma Chari ‘Tuzo Mog’, Lyanne Maria Fernandes ‘A.
Mariechem Dukh’, Priyanka Rama Lone ‘Kazarachem Utor’, Roshelle Dias ‘Meu
Amor’, Rutuja Lotlikar ‘Bhumyarantlo Monis’, Rynell Myron Rodrigues ‘Lovely
Esta’, Sanford Fernandes ‘Meera Meera’, Scully D’Souza ‘Pisso’, Sheryl Vaz
‘Lisboa’, Steffi Pereira ‘Kalliz Ostorechem’, Swizel D’Costa ‘Zhadd Tem
Ambeachem’ and Velery D’Costa ‘Kantaram Kortam’. There will also be two duets;
Rynell and Lionel with ‘Bizlecho Pavor’ and Ruchita and Princewell with ‘Zila
Lila’.
More than just a competition, this event promises to be a
magical evening of great Konkani music. The finals of Goencho Avaz will take
place at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on July 26, 2014 at 6:30 pm.
