Founder’s Day of Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) was celebrated with the release of a book compiled on the Romi Konkani writers of yesteryears ‘Romi Konknnintle Sorgest Sevok’. Tomazinho Cardozo, Fausto V Da Costa, DKA President Vincy Quadros and DKA Vice President Daniel F De Souza were on the dais with chief guest, Adv Carlos Alvares Fereira, MLA of Aldona Constituency, who said, “Without Konkani there is no Gõykarponn. I love Goa and I love Konkani.” He assured Dalgado Konknni Akademi that he will always be there if DKA wants any help from him.
The book is edited by the Editorial Board whose members consist of Tomazinho Cardozo, Fausto V Da Costa and Vincy Quadros. The writers who have contributed to this book are Irene Cardozo, Willy Goes, Celso Fernandes, Anthony Menezes, William Fernandes, Vassalo Carvalho, Fr Jose Silveira, Pio Esteves, Tomazinho Cardozo, Fausto V Da Costa and Vincy Quadros. The book is printed at ED’s Printers, Panjim under ‘DKA’s Sorgest Boroinnarank Argam Scheme.’
Earlier, Tomazinho Cardozo spoke at length about the inception of Dalgado Konknni Akademi in 1988 and what challenges DKA faced all the years to survive. He remembered the sacrifices done by late Fr Freddy D’Costa and others to keep the Akademi alive. He also informed the audience that the financial grants were first made available to DKA when Digamber Kamat was the Chief Minister of Goa. Subsequently, Late Manohar Parrikar provided a well furnished premises due to efforts put in by Caetano (Caitu) Silva when he was the MLA of Benaulim constituency.
While speaking on the book ‘Romi Konknnintle Sorgest Sevok,’ Fausto V D’ Costa reiterated that DKA should come out with other such research publications. He thanked everyone who has contributed to bring out this book.
Vincy Quadros, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, said that DKA is trying to reach very village in Goa and to take Romi Konkani to the people. “DKA is trying to reach young children at schools and youth in colleges. This historic book will be available at the DKA office at 40 percent discount,” he said.
Vice President Daniel F D’Souza welcomed the chief guest. DKA Secretary William Fernandes proposed the Vote of Thanks. Dr Glenis Mendonca introduced the chief guest while Sonia Gomes compered the whole show. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
