Sopo collection at Cortalim
PANJIM: The auction for the collection of market fees (sopo) for the year 2013-2014 will be held on March 22 at 12 noon in the office of village panchayat, Cortalim-Quelossim. The rules formulated by the panchayat for the auction can be seen in the office during office hours, says a press note.

CORTALIM: The bone density medical camp for senior citizens was organised by Sanctuary of Blessed Joseph Vaz, Sancoale, in Association with Pharmed Pharmaceutical evoked good response with over 150 patients attending the camp on Sunday.
Associated Professor of Goa Medical College Dr Zelio D’Mello and Dr Nikhil Bhandare examined the patients. Patients from Sancoale, Cortalim and neighbouring villages attended the camp.

Thefts on the rise in Bicholim
BICHOLIM: Theft cases near Primary Health Centre (PHC) Bicholim continue, even as Bicholim Police claimed to have beefed up patrolling in the area.
According to reports, on Sunday, burglars targeted a shop next to the PHC. The burglars entered the shop by breaking open the front door and damaged the things inside and also poured oil in the refrigerator.
It may be recalled that last week, batteries and diesel of two trucks parked opposite the PHC worth Rs 12,000 were stolen. Later, the burglars stole a motorcycle parked close to the PHC. Bicholim PI Neenad Devulkar had assured that he would increase patrolling in the area.
People have expressed surprise over the increase in theft cases in the city.
Nuvem resident succumbs
MARGAO: Rosario Fernandes, a pedestrian from Nuvem who was knocked down by a two-wheeler rider on Friday succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital.
Maina Curtorim police have registered offence of rash and negligent driving causing death under section 279 and 304 IPC against the two wheeler rider Camilo Cruz and further investigation is in progress.
One remanded for murder attempt
MARGAO: Abu Ahmad Sheik, 28, of Davangere, Karnataka wanted by Maina Curtorim police in connection with an alleged attempt to murder was arrested on Saturday at Davangere by a team of police.
He was brought to Margao on Sunday and produced before JMFC and remanded for five days police custody. The total number of persons arrested has gone up to five.
Earlier, police had arrested Ibrahim Saju, Imtiaz Abdul Rehaman, Mohammad Shaikh and Mohammed Ziayuella while one accused Tambi is still at large. Two among the arrested accused are said to be involved in another criminal case at Porvorim. The five arrested persons along with the absconding accused are alleged to be also involved in a criminal case at Porvorim.
SSC seating at Dharbandoda
COLLEM: The seating arrangement for SSC examination at Tisca-Dharbandoda centre has been announced.
The seating arrangement is Sarvodaya Education Society’s Sarvodaya HS and Sarvodaya HSS Usgaon-Vadakade (35560 to 35789 and 21387 and 29555), Gomantak Vidyalaya Piliem-Dharbandoda (35790 to 35939) and Vishweshwar Shankar Lad HSS Piliem-Dharbandoda (35940 to 35989 and with exemptions 35990 to 36115).
According to chief conductor of Tisca-Dharbandoda centre and Headmaster of Hirabai Talaulikar Secondary School Sancorda Rajaram Jog, 528 students including 126 with exemptions will answer exams at the Tisca-Dharbandoda centre.
