The common resolutions that one makes are probably to eat less, to exercise more, get personal finance on the right track, give more to charity, be good to others, to forgive, etc. But many of these resolutions are quickly forgotten even we get into the second month of the year. Many find it extremely difficult to even stick to one resolution.
So why is it difficult to stick to New Year Resolutions?
One reason could be that one aims very high while making these resolutions. As a result, it may be difficult to adhere to them. It is pertinent to note that most of the New Year resolutions that we make concerns our physical being. We resolve to look good, to save more money, to reduce our weight, to dress well, etc. All this has to do with our physical well-being which is good.
But, we also need to make resolutions to become better beings, to improve our spiritual life, to do good to others, to spend more time in prayer, to forgive our enemies, etc. This will help us grow spiritually.
Some of the popular resolutions include to spend more time with the family and friends, get rid of the bulge, to quit smoking and drinking, to enjoy life more, to go on a world tour and see more places, get out of debt, learn something new, help others get better organized.
The reason why people make resolutions on New Year’s day is because it is the start of a brand New Year. People like to do something new in their lives and leave the past behind.
It would be helpful to make an assessment of the resolutions made last year as to how many of them were kept. If the abandoned resolutions need to be kept give it one more shot. Make realistic resolutions. Monitor the status of the resolutions on a regular basis as one progresses into the New Year.
We need to live a balanced lifestyle. We need to look into our eating habits and get rid of the bulge. The elderly also need to make resolutions to look after their health. Life is all about making resolutions and keeping them. Each day there is something new to learn. We need to look forward to the New Year with hope and be grateful to God for giving us yet another year.
Happy New Year.
