A wake up call

India is a ‘democratic’ nation, but at present there are things that are happening in India which pose a serious threat to its democracy. Here are some of the hard facts which people in Goa might not be aware of.
“Attacks on Christians, systematic and in full knowledge of the authorities, have become frequent since the Modi government took office in New Delhi. On July 27, in Parapur village, where only two Christian families have been living for the past several years, Sukhram, 22 was beaten up by VHP activists and the police refused to register an FIR. Instead, his family was told either to compromise or to face the consequence.” “Trouble began in this restive area (Karnataka) even as the election results were being declared on May 16 assuring the victory of Modi. A group of inebriated celebrators pelted two mosques in Dakshina Kanada district with stones apart from bursting crackers in their vicinities. While swift action was taken by the police, this act clearly proved that Modi’s supporters felt emboldened by his victory to target mosques.
The shocking incidents highlighted above were not mentioned in any of the party manifestos before elections, but such incidents are taking place in different parts of our nation today. Do not be surprised, even as you are reading this article now, somewhere in India such violations  might be taking place. Some of such incidents are not reported by the media and in some cases the police do not even file an FIR. Who has given them instructions not to report or not to file FIR’s? Many of those who are involved in the fanatic behaviour may not even be aware of why they are involved in such activities. In India there is a large number of youth which is unemployed. Instead of giving them jobs, they might be misdirected by those few who are in power, by giving them incentives, in order to do things which they desire. Our youth should be very careful, not to fall prey to such temptations. Today, we have launched a drive to clean our environment, but before that, we should first clean our own heart and mind, which is full of communal dirt, and which is more dangerous than anything else. Today our leaders are calling different nations, to join hands for world peace, but within the nation, can’t they see the disharmony, denial of constitutional rights, violation of human rights and all sorts of anti-social elements flourishing? Or, are they themselves in favour of such evils?  One might be forced to ponder, are such things secretly, systematically and purposely planned? We should not wait for such social evils to enter our homes; we have to drive them away when they are at the doorstep. My dear Goans, we have to unite before it’s too late, we have to be more vigilant than ever. These days there are many vehicles from Karnataka entering Goa, what is the reason behind this? What are “they” up to? My dear fellow Goans don’t be ‘susegad!’
