It is very much evident! If not, why is the Goan electorate throwing pearls before swines, by going into hibernation during this crucial election period when Goa is burning and on the way to extinction? Hoards of educated, sensible and concerned citizens should have been out to campaign vociferously for those candidates who uphold the values of truth and justice and who have the potential to revive our Goa, the paradise lost. They should have been up in arms to protest against those shady characters who will continue to ravage Goa by luring the gullible electorate with their goodies. All this comes as at a very costly price for Goans, our land and our future generations.
What use is it protesting later after the elections and grieving the evil that befalls us? Is our religion and morality to be confined only to temples, churches, mosques, etc and not to be carried forward in the worldly sphere, to eliminate devils who reign and thereby transforms this world to its former glory? Have we forgotten that we need to emulate “Jesus” the greatest leader on Earth, who always stood by the truth, for which he had to pay by death on the cross to save us? Unlike Him, for those who are afraid to come out in the open for being targeted, the following are the assurances that the Bible gives to all. “So do not fear, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10). “Do not be afraid of those who want to kill your body but of those who can kill your soul.”(Matthew:10:28). What about following good and not evil, as taught to us by all our religions, for that matter?
The choice of rulers is the prerogative of every voter, which should be exercised assiduously for the prosperity of our society; else we would be abettors of crimes, prevalent in our society due to the wrong choice of rulers. Are we aware that for the last 55 years we have chosen only scoundrels as our rulers, either being indifferent or falling prey to their enticements? It is a misnomer to assume that all politicians are corrupt or that politics is synonymous with corruption. Politics or political science in reality is a science of good administration of our land and resources, with this responsibility being entrusted to the rulers. They have a responsibility to provide what the people want and not to impose mal-administration which leads to creation of poverty and promotion of all sorts of crimes like robbery, prostitution, murders, drug trafficking, destruction of the land, water and air, etc.
The greater criminal is the one who remains mute at election time by calling himself or herself “apolitical”. No citizen can be apolitical, not even a pandit, maulvi, priest or a nun of any religion. The religious as custodians of morality should be more apprehensive that their flock chooses the right candidates to protect God’s Legacy.
Shake yourself of your complacency, lethargy and sense of defeat against these evil forces! Stand up, speak out and be counted; no matter if you are a youngster, middle-aged, retired or an octogenarian! May this piece stir and guide the conscience of every voter to exercise their franchise judiciously.
