Catch up India

Indians are in every country of this planet earth! Generally Indians abroad are considered as sincere to their work, productive and respected for being very good techies. They knew several languages and plenty of stuff about history, politics, geography and the arts; still Indians are not so welcome race in most of the developed rich countries. Why? The fact is that almost all countries are suffering from a burning issue called unemployment. It is not only unemployment, but employment with poor pay is also an issue.
We Indians being cheap and efficient labour, are indirectly responsible for others to lose their opportunities or to get lesser pay and hence resultant hatred towards Indians. Some examples for this are USA, Australia, Gulf countries and Europe. Add to it the demography change Indians bring with them. Not to miss behind the scene colour discrimination.
Other reason is cultural incompatibilities, especially regarding to hygiene, cleanliness, sense of personal space, and behaviours. A study shows flight attendants dislike flying to/from India. If you recall your own experience of boarding and flying an Indian bound flight from any international airport you can understand the problem easily. Behaviours like not following queue, jumping queue, crowding the departure gate, blocking the way and chatting in high volume with co passengers or on phone inside the aircraft are quite common to us. Getting off the seat and retrieving bags from overhead bins even before seat belts signs are off on landing is no offence as per our mindset! These are classic examples for our attitudinal problem.
Though the history of India and Indian culture is very rich and very old, we never respected or followed both and missed our chances for development. Countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand which were insignificant 150 years ago are well developed. Japan, which is prone to frequent earthquakes, tsunami, has limited territory, 80% mountainous not suitable for agriculture and very little natural resources but it is world third economy. Major difference between India and these countries is attitude of the people, moulded for many years by education, moral responsibility and culture.
It is proved time and again that neither knowledge nor skill but right attitude is the single most trait required for progress of self or a nation. Though Indians have rich heritage, culture, knowledge & skill sets, but they lack the most important trait called attitude. We are all humans and it’s always good to be pleasant. Just observe, you can see many people not even returning a smile or eye contact in day today life and instead show their grim face in public transport, lifts, offices and public places. It is high time we do course correction in our attitude for our day today life situations.
It is not only the politicians, government officials, engineers, doctors, lawyers & other professionals but each one of us have to come out of the ‘me me’ self-centred attitude and show compassion towards fellow Indians. Let us shed hatred driven negative attitude and bring in positive attitude driven love, enthusiasm, endurance, perseverance and make India catch up with rest of the world.
