The Prime Minister of any country holds a most prestigious office, and our Indian PM, Narendra Modi, should consider himself blessed to represent India and other Indians to the rest of the world!
So, it is with disbelief that every so often, vindictiveness and oneupmanship is seen to be played out on the world’s stage, much to the chagrin and annoyance of conservative Indians across the world. I see nothing to be gained by airing some political vendetta, or washing dirty, political linen in public!
Perhaps, it’s because our PM, who claims to have been a tea seller, has not really been honed in public-behavior skills (which is often referred to as Etiquette)! He may be rubbing shoulders regularly with the world’s elite and hot-shot corporate honchos, but it seems little has rubbed off on to him! The only rubbing off that the world saw a couple of days ago was when Satya Nadella of Microsoft fame rubbed Modi’s handshake off with a handkerchief! Just because people have these kinds of friends doesn’t necessarily mean that they are refined; on the contrary, many such people have dark, frightening backgrounds!
I have written something similar before: I have no respect for someone who cannot conduct themselves in a dignified manner before the world’s court of countries and people. Is the BJP and Congress (in fact, most political parties!) so determined to tear each other to shreds publicly in terms of vendettas, vindictiveness and corruption scandals, that the image of India takes such a hell of a beating abroad which it is impossible to recover from.
Our PM should be dubbed an NRI (non resident Indian) because he hardly spends time in India. I ask: why does India need more digitalization when there are so many farmer suicides and hundreds of millions of the poorest who struggle to get 2 square meals daily? He is either ill-advised, or needs to rethink our people’s priorities; perhaps, he has already thought it out, and wants to run with the rich crowd only! All I have witnessed so far in the PM’s trips abroad is a lot of hot-air promises and little action! Even the RBI Governor has tried to be kind in making this fact known to the general public, and Mr Modi, I presume.
Frankly, I am sick of the vast number of crores of rupees being ‘wasted’ by our PM and his entourage when sentinels of our country demanding implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) through our erstwhile Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, have to agitate for decency in their pension remuneration (as just another example!). Perhaps, our PM’s ears may be burning from the dissent and curses being fired at him. Shame on you, Mr Prime Minister! This is a big deception being played out, one that popularizes Mr. Modi, that bankrolls corporates and honchos, but consigns the poor into poorer hell!
