These days we just have to open a Newspaper or Magazine or switch on the Television and we see a plethora of demands being strongly put forward by the youth of the country to the Government. One says that we have the right to clean air. The other says we have the right to education. Yet another says that we have the right to food and health care. Let us not forget about the right to employment and also to good roads, entertainment, equal opportunity and a bag full of other demands.
Have our youth not become greedy, lazy and irresponsible. No one speaks about their duties. If we want clean air, is it not our responsibility to see that we do not burn our rubbish near our dwellings instead of disposing it off scientifically as per the rules. If we want clean water, do not we have a responsibility to keep our water bodies clean. I have seen men, women and children, defecating on the banks of streams, rivers and lakes and washing themselves of the faeces clinging to their dirty bodies in those very water sources. The Ganges is putrid with half burnt bodies floating in the running water. Rotting animal carcasses, human sewage and industrial pollutants are also freely flowing into our Holy Rivers at 24/7. It is not only spiritually sinful, but it is also morally absolutely incorrect. Where are all the NGO’s, the saffron brigade elements and local self Governments and stick totting and slogan shouting politicians gone? Should they not use their time, influence and money at their disposal to take care of these matters?
Do not worry about Ghar Wapasi and conversions in Christian schools. Get your priorities right. The Ram-Sene under Pramod Muthalik and the Ramnithi Temple Ponda/ Sanathan Saunsthan Committee can find much better jobs to busy themselves with, rather than give unwanted advice to other Communities..
Rights and duties go hand in hand. Please therefore explain to the youth, that all will be well provided they also do their duties properly. It is time to at least talk about this very important subject. No Government can waive the magic wand and produce all that you want or wish for. So we all must make an effort to do our duties and take part in nation building. Then Goa’s progress will show and we its citizens can live happily ever after.
In olden times , the books say that Gurus, who were learned and experienced men sat in the village Chaupal or under a shady tree and taught a group of children about the social traditions and customs of old. It is here that they developed their respect and appreciation for their teachers and looked up to them and revered them like Gods. There was peace and tranquility everywhere and good neighbourly relations existed between members of different communities, even if they belonged to different religions. Where has this wonderful practice disappeared? Is it that we no longer care, or is it that or political bosses wish to divide and rule. But we observe this new discordant way of living leaves a big void in our lives For the costly mistakes of their own the Christian community who has no role to play is needlessly blamed for converting Dalits into Christians. It is our sacred duty to teach our younger generation about tolerance, discipline, respect for teachers and elders and the advantages of prayer and meditation. Rape and molestation has become a common crime, because we have failed in our duties to teach our young ones the need for patience, tolerance, sharing and caring for one another. Increasingly, it has become a world of each one for himself. We are following America and Western culture where children show no respect for their parents, teachers and other elders and settle everything with the fist and the gun. Indian culture of old is the best to follow in this modern world. It will bring brotherhood, peace, tranquility and friendship besides success in every field if we follow it sincerely.
