Technical talk
PANJIM: The Department of MCA of Shree Devi Institute of Technology, Kenjar organized a technical talk on ‘Evolution of FLOSS’ for all MCA students of SDIT recently.
The resource person for the session was Prof Edwin from Pennsylvania, USA.
The formal function was followed by a technical session. Dr Dilip Kumar, Principal, Shree Devi Institute of Technology, Prof Nethravathi P S, HOD, Dept of MCA and Dennis Jacob John, Asst Prof, Dept of MCA were the other dignitaries on the dais for the function.
The session mainly highlighted the advantages of using Free Open Source Softwares and motivated the audience to think beyond limits. Nearly 110 students along with department faculty members were present.
Retreat at Curchorem

Selection for Lusofonia volunteers
PANJIM: The Goa Government will conduct a presentation for selection of volunteers for Lusofonia Games (organization and event) on April 30, at 10.30am in Dempo College Hall, Altinho, Panjim. Students have been requested to attend.
Pai Tiatrist family to be at TAG meet
PANJIM: Theresa Pereira, daughter of Pai Tiatrist Joao Agostinho Fernandes and his second wife Maria Luisa will attend the ‘Somplelea Tiatristancho Ugddas’ meet to be held by the Tiatr Academy of Goa at their conference hall in Panjim on April 29, at 4.30 pm.
The day’s gathering would be unique for tiatr lovers as it will also comprise Joao Agostinho’s three grand-daughters. The threesome, all outstanding singers carrying on the family tradition, include Dolly D’Souza, who was popular around 1950-60 and also sang the famed song ‘Anddio Gansing, Gansing’, Maria Miranda and Lydia Paul.
They will be presented with a portrait of Joao Agostinho by well-known cartoonist Alexyz.
Rider loses control, dies
PONDA: A 58-year-old motorcycle rider from Vasco died after the motorcycle skidded off the road at Sukhthale-Mollem on Sunday. According to Collem Police, James Basudev Godhai died on the way to Ponda Sub-District Hospital. Police informed that the deceased’s family had gone to Collem by a train for a picnic, whie James was to join them later. According to information, James was proceeding to Collem on the motorcycle. The accident occurred after James reportedly lost control over the vehicle.
Class XII results on May 2
PANAJI: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is preparing to announce the results of Class XII on May 2 at 11am. The results are usually announced towards the end of May. The exam, which started on March 2, was also conducted earlier than usual.
Konkani novel to be released
PANJIM: Under its ‘Sahitik Vozram’ scheme, Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) will release Konkani novel ‘Sankoll’ on May 4, at Goa Museum Hall, EDC Complex, Patto, Panjim.
Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza will be the chief guest and Fr Conceicao D’Silva will be the guest of honour.
The novel penned by noted Konkani novelist Bonaventure D’Pietro, is based on rich cultural traditions and customs of Christian weddings prevalent in different talukas of Goa and extending upto Mumbai, where Goans have preserved them till date. As a supplement, an audio CD will be made available along with the novel, which contains folk songs, ‘zoti’ or ‘vers’, sung during weddings. The lyrics are mentioned in the novel.
New soap-on-a-rope
PANJIM: Modern Cosmetic Industries has come out with a new ‘Gold Fish soap-on-a-rope’ weighing 50 grams. A press note says that they have done it on public request and it comes with a new lavender fragrance. It will be called ‘Chota Gold Fish’ and will be priced at Rs 15.
The folk songs have been recorded by Bonaventure’s son Rabin D’Pietro. Konkani writer Jose Salvador Fernandes will review the novel and Konkani poet Walter Menezes will compere the release function.
