Foreign investments, foreign faiths…

Hindutva Governance is fast proving to be that double edged sword which many had forewarned about. On one hand is the Government’s invitation for foreign investment and on the other, a swearing from certain allied Hindutva quarters to eradicate foreign faiths from the country. Modi’s assurances of ‘sabka saath, sabki vikas’ is turning out to be more of a ‘bakwas’ that conceals the country’s gaze from the corporate and communal mega carnival that has been unleashed simultaneously along with, what some call, attempts to distort history and manufacture culture. The glitter of ‘Money’ seems to cripple the reasoning of modern Indian classes who fail to learn from history and have taken their freedom for granted. What was bad governance just a year ago for political analysts and intellectuals has now been twisted as good governance, ‘Ram Rajya’.
The silence of the then UPA Prime Minister on wild accusations flung by the opposition was a sign of a weak PM, to be mocked at as ‘Maun Mohan’. The same silence of Modi on rather equally serious issues confronting the country is now categorised as astute and focused leadership.
The occasional diplomatic visits by then UPA PM to foreign countries were branded extravagant and burdensome on the exchequer of a poor country like India. But the foreign visits of the PM Modi, who seems to be practically on a world tour at public expense in a special jet and amidst high profile media blitz within hardly 100 days from assuming office, gets surprisingly hailed as the cause for India’s overnight splash into global economic relevance.  “Come make in India!”, says India’s PM.  Coincidentally, the 3rd of December every year is not only celebrated as the feast of the Apostle who brought what Hindutvawadis call the foreign faith to India, but it is also a day that marks the most horrifying outcome of ‘Come make in India’. In 1984 a subsidiary unit of US based Dow Chemicals also made in India what goes down in history as the genocide in Bhopal where innocent people still reap the destructive dividends and pay a bloody price for foreign investment.
As of today, it appears that India is no more headed by a PM who is guided by a democratic secular Constitution. Instead it seems to have been replaced with a North-West India Company having its capital at Ahmedabad and led by a Prime Marketing Executive who is remote controlled by a select bunch of opportunistic corporates.
Social welfare Indicators are determined by SENSEX moods and GDP ratings. Information and publicity has given way to aggressive marketing strategies that force ‘Manufactured Truths’ on citizens. While environmental laws are being altered and Citizenship rules relaxed to appease Hindutva’s ‘foreign Indian’ fan club who serve foreign masters and sermonise to Resident Indians back home, one can only hope that this generation may not live to regret the ‘Abki bar Modi sarkar’ in the near future just like their Goan counterparts who embraced Parivartan in 2012.
