Recently the Transport Minister Ramakrishna Dhawalikar has expressed his views to make it compulsory for occupants of  two-wheelers to wear helmets. The idea seems quite favourable amidst rising accident cases pertaining to two-wheelers in different parts of the state of Goa. Many innocent lives have been lost on roads due to rash and negligent driving. The percentage of deaths pertaining to two-wheelers is alarming.
In case the helmet is worn by the pillion rider as well while travelling on two-wheelers, it will indeed help in saving many precious lives. The much needed safety would ultimately be assured in times of any untoward incident along the main road. Along with the introduction of helmet for the pillion rider, it is equally important that the existing potholes in different locations are repaired on priority basis.
During rainy season, the stagnated water inside the potholes is invisible and hence two-wheeler riders face great risk and danger. So also stray cattle relaxing over the road during day/night time should also be dealt with a firm hand. This will go a long way in providing a permanent relief to travellers and pedestrians alike.
