British scientist Stephen Hawking was the famous astrophysicist and cosmologist who received many honors for his work in the field of cosmology, quantum physics, black holes, and the nature of space time. He says, “There is no God. No one created our universe. It arose spontaneously on its own, with laws of physics without the intervention of God.”
Something from nothing; it doesn’t immediately make sense because, at the level of human’s experience, we see cause-and-effect. But cause-and-effect does not exist on the quantum level in the same way that we experience it. M-Theory (mother of all theories) shows how “something can come from nothing.”
Everyone knows that the methodology of science is based around suppositions or guess-work and experimentation. And many Christian publications which took aim at scientists claimed that God frames the laws of the universe, and physicists discover them.
I have read that the whole universe is a matter of evolution from what is described as a ‘sub-atomic particle’—Higgs Boson — popularly known as the “God Particle” which explained what gives all the matter in the universe its size and shape. In this way the universe was described as a matter of self-evolution. Scientist state that Higgs Boson explained that there is something rather than nothing. In 2013 the giant collider in Switzerland, CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research), demonstrated through rigorous experimentation that the Higgs-Boson exists not only as a mathematical abstraction in a highly complex formula but also in actuality.
Higgs who won the Noble Prize did not like the popular name given to the Higgs-Boson: the ‘God particle’ because Higgs’ himself is an atheist. Stephen Hawking has warned that this mysterious ‘God particle’ is a “very high energy levels which could become unstable and could cause a “catastrophic vacuum decay that would lead space and time to collapse.” But who created “God Particle”? Was it something from nothing? This brings us to the corner stone of spirituality. Spiritualist say, God cannot be proved logically. We experience God’s existence from the effect we see. We see the universe running so intelligently. If God is proved objectively, He will no longer be God. He will become a thing and scientists would be able to dissect God in their lab and men would be able to analyse Him. In short, the existence of God cannot be understood by our five senses. E.g. we have seen the ocean and know about its waves and its cooling effect. But to realise all this, we must not only stand and stare on the shore, but also to enter and feel the waters.
The Arch Bishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, said “Belief in God…is the belief that there is an intelligent, living agent on whose activity everything ultimately depends for its existence. Physics on its own will not settle the question of why there is something rather than nothing.”
In the age of materialism, many people disbelieve the existence of God as they feel that which cannot be understood by our senses is unreal and fictitious. We are free to believe what we want.
