The sword suggesting the forceful powers of justice and the balance showing the fact that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. The blindfold over her eyes explains that there is enough room for cheating.
Earthly justice is changing and temporary. It is a legal method which exhibits the morality of culture, customs and way of life of people. Divine justice cannot be compared with earthly justice. God’s justice is unchanging and eternal.
Earthly justice is often based on legal conclusions on factual findings later found to be inaccurate. However, authorities in this world are trying their best to give us justice but they have their own limitations. If the prosecution fails to prove the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt, some get punished and others go scot-free. As human justice has its own shortcoming many say that there is no justice in this world. But this is not so about heavenly justice. God’s justice is based on His knowledge of past and future events. There is no injustice or inaccuracy with God. Therefore, this earthly justice cannot be compared to heavenly justice.
In order to determine the guilt for the young person, earthly justice depends on biological age and not on the seriousness of the offence; but the justice of God is regardless of age; it depending upon the understanding of the seriousness of crime committed and not on the age of the criminal that he is a juvenile. If a person is old enough to an ‘adult’ crime of rape or murder he or she is old enough to pay for it in the court of God’s justice, if not in the court of law. This is because God reads the heart, not some chart of right and wrong. He looks at our hearts and the sincerity of our deeds and judges us accordingly. His religion is of the heart which is a spontaneous response to people in need and not in empty practice of every ritual in the book; and in making pilgrimage to holy places.
A story narrated by Joseph Hartz in his Daily Prayer Book says, “Every man has three friends, when Death summons him to appear before the Creator. His friend, whom he loves most, namely his money, cannot go with him a single step; his second, relations and neighbours, can only accompany him up to the cremation/burial ground, but cannot defend him before the judge; while his third friend, whom he does not highly esteem — his good deeds — go with him before the king, and obtain his acquittal.”
a) The vision of prophet Isaiah gives a message of God’s justice towards lip service, meaningless offerings, evil assemblies, prayers and evil deeds. (Isaiah 1:10-20).
b) In The Lord’s Prayer “forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”Jesus elaborates: “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Mt.6:9-14)
c) The picture of divine justice is also found in the Parable of the unmerciful servant. (Mt.18:23-35.)
In Romans 12:19, it is said, “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Yes, justice belongs to God.
