From last two decades tourism has become one of major Industry of Goa, it is duty of Government of Goa and people of State to see that the tourists visiting Goa goes through a comfortable, enjoyable and hassle free stay in the State. Some years back foreign tourists outnumbered domestic tourists but since last few years and particularly during last year it is alleged that domestic tourists are the dominate factor of Goa Tourism.
The decline of foreign tourists visiting Goa can attribute too many wrongdoings, but as days passed we see new type unethical practices taking place in Goa. Recently, I came across how some of private doctors and private buses in State of Goa are looting the foreign tourists. A known elderly French couple visiting Goa for last many years in Goa who often extend their stay in Goa for a period of 2 to 3 months revealed to me how some of private doctors are looting foreign tourists. The normal fee of private doctors in that particular area is around Rs 250 to Rs 300 for locals, but some doctors charge around Rs 600 to Rs 650 from foreign tourists for same service of consultancy. Double the amount they charge for local patients.
This is nothing than daylight robbery or in better words loot of foreign tourists else can the Private Doctors who are practicing unethically can justify for charging double the fee of what they charge for local patients? What is difference between the biological body of local and foreigner to charge different fee? Further inquiry it was noticed that the elderly couple paid just Rs 400 for the medicines prescribe by said doctor. So the charge of doctor is more than the medicines which is unthinkable and cannot just passover without bringing to the notice of the public.
That is not the end of so-called local lootmare of foreign tourists. Further after few days after coming across a private doctor loot I personally came across how the bus conductors of buses plying from Margao to Palolem are charging double the ticket fare from foreign tourists travelling in their buses. Which makes me wonder whether we are in country of Banana Republic?
This type of unethical practice by private doctors and bus owners has to stop, they are inviting bad name to the tourism industry but bringing shame on their profession. It is said that doctors are next to almighty God but looting of patients proves that their profession is leaning towards Lucifer’s which logically would results in digging more graveyards for patients.
Most of tourists coming to Goa are ready to spend as much money as they can for their pleasant stay in Goa but certainly someone cheating/looting cannot be digested by them as such they will certainly look for other destinations and pass over their ugly experience within their friend circles. Those who are looting foreign tourists in Goa should remember that they will definitely become super rich with extra bucks but are definitely killing golden goose with their greediness.
