Suresh Kare turns 75 today
PANJIM: Suresh Govind Kare, the architect behind the noted Pharmaceutical giant Indoco Remedies, that employs about 4000 staff, turns 75 on January 9. The products of Indoco Remedies are much in demand in the international markets of America, Europe and Asia and the net capital worth of Kare’s company runs into a few thousand crores. He is also the President of Sneh Mandir at Bandora. Kare is known for his planned workmanship, discipline and strict abidance to ethics in business. Indoco Remedies was born in 1946-47 and today it operates from 6-7 places and employs a few thousand. Suresh is married to Aruna Kare
Encounter with tiatrist on January 11
PANJIM: Diocesan Centre for Lay Apostolate is organizing a meeting ~ Encounter with Tiatrist, on January 11, at Lar de Estudantes, Altinho, Panjim. The meeting will start with the Eucharistic celebration at 9am presided over by Archbishop Patriarch Filipe Neri Ferrao. It will be followed by a power point presentation ‘How can we use the Word of God and the Church teachings in our Tiatr’ by Fr Simiao Fernandes, Scripture Professor at Rachol Seminary. A group discussion on different aspects of tiatr will follow and the meeting will end with lunch. Tiatrist who wish to participate in this meeting may contact Fr Nevel Gracias by Friday evening.
Bone mineral density camp
PANJIM: A free bone mineral density detection camp will be held on January 17, in the office of Porvorim MLA, Rohan Khaunte, Atmaram Borkar Road, Alto Torda, Porvorim, from 2 pm to 6 pm by Dr Selvan C Thevar (orthopaedic rehabilitionist). Andrew Pereira promoted to ASI
PANJIML Andrew Pereira, serving as Head Constable in the Band Section of the Goa Police Department has been promoted to the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector/In-charge of the band. Pereira joined the Goa Police in 1979 as band man and was promoted to the rank of Head Constable. During his 35 year tenure in the department, he did commendable work in the band section and earned a niche for himself. Pereira hails from Azosim, Tiswadi.
Our Lady of Divar High School turns 50
PANJIM: Fifty years ago, in 1964, a visionary, Fr Pedro Filomeno Soares, the parish priest of Our Lady of Piety (Piedade) Church then, founded the Our Lady of Divar High School, popularly known as ‘Tamdem Iskoll’ on Divar island, which begins the Golden Jubilee year-long celebration on January 10. Archbishop-Patriarch Filipe Neri Ferrao will declare the jubilee year open with a homily at the school premises, at 10 am in the presence of Principal Fr Anil Kumar, Headmaster John S M Fernandes, PTA Chairman Eddy Picardo, PTA members, management and staff, students and past pupils.
The school, once upon a time, was the residence of Fr Jacome Gonsalves, a missionary, who worked zealously with Blessed Fr Jose Vaz in Sri Lanka and was partly donated to the Fabrica of the Piedade Church and over the years has made progress in studies and sports to try and bring out the best from every student and shape them for a better future.
