Ensure safety of students

The Goa government does not seem to have learnt its lesson from the Calvim bus tragedy. Although the government has come out with rules for the transportation of school children, the Directorate of Transport seems least bothered about the safety of school children, as it has not implemented the safety rules. Even today you can see Maruti Omni vans and auto rickshaws carrying school children much more than their carrying capacity. Why is the Directorate of Transport not taking action against these vehicles? Is it really interested in the safety of the general public? If a two wheeler meets with an accident, adult people with full knowledge of the consequence of not wearing a helmet will be affected, but if a van packed with school children even meets with a minor accident it will lead to a major tragedy of innocent children for no fault of theirs as the children are packed like sardines in the vehicles along with their school bags. As we celebrate road safety week once again I appeal to Directorate of Transport to look into the matter of the safety of school children at the earliest
