The peace effort between India and Pakistan has received a severe jolt with suspected fidayeen terrorists of Pakistan-based terror outfit Laskhar-e-Tayyaba targeting a police building in Punjab’s Gurdaspur town. While the act deserves to be condemned in the strongest possible terms no praise is too high for the heroic Army commandos for putting their lives on the line and quelling the challenge of the terrorists. While many may scoff at the idea of going ahead with resumption of dialogue with Pakistan after the incident there should be no reason to slacken the peace process as this would only send out the wrong signal and encourage terror elements. While checking such terror is a big test for the Modi government no effort should be spared in stepping up vigil, both on the borders and within the country.
