Prevent summer heat stroke at all costs

Goa is in the grip of an unusually hot summer this year and ideally it would be the best possible scenario to prevent cases of heat strokes. Here are a few tips on how to cope up with the unusually hot summer and thus prevent dehydration and heat strokes: Since hot weather leads to dehydration due to excessive perspiration, it would be prudent that those who walk in the hot afternoon sun should carry at least water to re-hydrate, water with a pinch of salt to replace the sodium chloride that you lose through perspiration, water with glucose for those who need the extra energy in the heat and also water with Electral dissolved in it to replace the salts lost due to perspiration.

Elderly people should avoid going out in the hot sun an hour before and after noon. It would also be advisable to wear a cap or a hat to prevent heat from affecting you especially at noon. For most people during this summer heat it would be advisable to go for a shower in the afternoon to contend with the afternoon heat.

Also as far as possible walk underneath the trees especially in the morning, afternoon and early evening. It would be the best possible scenario in Goa if no case of heat stroke is reported as a consequence of people preventing excessive dehydration during this unusually hot summer where temperatures could hit 37 to 38 degrees Centigrade.

Stop shedding blood in Ukraine

If the late world renowned mathematician cum philosopher Prof Betrand Russel was alive now he would call upon the Russians and people all around the globe not to support Russia under Putin who is shedding blood of civilians and children and destroys Ukraine. A man of Prof Russel’s calibre is the need of the hour now to conscientise the world against this war as he did against the Nazi Hitler during the second world war when at Oxford he told his students to leave the classroom and help the British Government in joining the war instead of attending the lecture which is not the need of the hour but fighting the war against Hitler is.

This is the same philosopher who during the first World War opposed the involvement of his British government into that war and gave a call to everyone not to join that war because there is no major issue involved in that war for British Government and since this is the case he told his students to refuse to join this war in support of British Government. He was arrested, reprimanded and humiliated but he never surrendered.

Prof. Russel was also responsible to bring an end to Vietnam War by using the moral weapon to force the American government to withdraw from Vietnam.

The Ukraine War is unlikely to end soon because the UNO brought into existence to avert all the wars in this world is become useless and incapable of performing its obligations. If the late Prof. Russel was alive now he would call upon the Russians and even the people all around the globe not to support Putin’s Russia that is killing civilians and creating lot of destruction in Ukraine.

Swearing-in and traffic chaos

Goa will today witness the much delayed swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister and his cabinet being held in contentious circumstances.

After the Chief Minister having been selected by the Delhi leaders, the list of cabinet ministers has also been finalised by the BJP High Command and Goa is set to be now run by Delhi which will ensure the further destruction and devastation of what remains of our beloved land.

On the occasion of this official solemn function being pompously held at Shama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, we will today have to bear the brunt of traffic chaos all over. With almost the entire police personnel deployed for this occasion, today most police stations and their outposts will be staffless.

In the manner in which official functions are being organised it looks like the BJP is more in event management than rendering good governance.

In fact the BJP a decade ago on March 9, 2012 held the swearing in ceremony of its government at Sports Authority of Goa grounds in Campal, which function cost the State exchequer a Rs 10,91,782 of which Rs 66,000 was spent on 222 kgs of peddas, Rs 93,120 on water bottles while Rs 48,000 on 6000 batata vadas and another Rs 48,000 on the 6000 vegetable patties.

Resubmission of Nauxi marina proposal

The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Union Ministry for Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MOEF&CC) has asked the proposer to resubmit the AHOY Marina project at Nauxi village along the Zuari River. This is because the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for Goa is still not ready.

The Goa Government was taken to task due to delays in finalising the Plan but in Dec 2021 the plan was submitted to the National Coastal Zone Management Authority. This body has still not approved the plan as it has sought several clarifications from the government. The marina project of 1 lakh sq km was cleared in 2015 by the Investment Promotion Board in Goa and was and still is being strongly opposed by the Nauxi villagers and fisherfolks.

Recently the Mormugao Port Trust has become Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) which has a vast sweeping operational and jurisdictional authority till Dona Paula bay, including the village of Nauxi. We trust that the EAC would insist that the proposer seek approval from the MPA too.

A note of caution to BJP leaders

The swearing-in ceremony of Dr Pramod Sawant as Goa’s Chief Minister on March 28, for the second time, in the presence of prominent National and local leaders at the Dr P Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, is a grand auspicious and glittering occasion replete with VVIPs including the PM, HM, Central ministers, CMs of different States, religious leaders and about 60,000 invitees.

Generally such mammoth gatherings provide an excellent platform and also a ripe opportunity for the local and national leaders to shower all kinds of praises and exaggerated laurels about extraordinary achievements during their previous administration. Unfortunately this time, although the same party has been returned to power, everyone knows that their success at the hustings has nothing to do with good governance but a “gift” by way of fluke and split in votes.

This has been made clear by the wafer thin margins some prominent BJP’s candidates have won and the fact that only 33.3% of total votes cast were in their favour, while 66.7% voted against BJP.

Hence it would be futile for the speakers to indulge in boasting about the past performance, because there’s nothing tangible and realistic to say, but instead concentrate in highlighting the future plans of action of the new government.

Paying price for oil and gas

The LPG price is at a record high after the government announced Rs 50 hike; a non-subsidised cylinder will now cost Rs 949.50 in the national capital and Mumbai. Likewise, petrol and diesel prices have been increased by 80 paise.

The hike is not a burden for the rich, but a heavy burden to the poor.

House wives are most affected as they could not meet both ends for quite some time. The central government should try to reduce the hiked petrol, diesel prices or else it is difficult for poor and middle class people to meet high expenditure.
