Marvel Studios has unveiled the second trailer for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, giving fans a closer look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and the massive multiverse battle awaiting the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and X-Men. The two-minute trailer, released during Disney’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, has further raised excitement for the film’s theatrical release on December 18.

Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Evans, who reprises his role as Steve Rogers, and Hayley Atwell, who returns as Peggy Carter. The trio teased their comebacks before the trailer shifted to the darker side of Victor von Doom and the threat he poses to the heroes. The trailer opens with Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman, warning a group of heroes about Doom. Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, or Mister Fantastic, confronts Doom amid rubble. Doom responds with a chilling message directed at the heroes, accusing them of living lives that do not truly belong to them. “All of you have lived stolen lives,” he says. “But now you must give them back.” The trailer then delivers its most striking reveal as Doom raises an army of Sentinels, the iconic machines traditionally associated with the X-Men. As the heroes face an increasingly overwhelming threat, Doom declares, “Hell answers to me, for I am Doom.”
Robert Downey Jr.’s Major MCU Return

Downey Jr.’s return is particularly significant for Marvel fans. After portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man for more than a decade before the character’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, the actor is returning to the MCU in a completely different role as Doctor Doom. The film features an enormous ensemble cast. Alongside Downey Jr., Evans and Hemsworth, returning MCU stars include Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi.
The Fantastic Four Join the Fight
The cast of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ also returns, with Pascal as Reed Richards, Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing. Their involvement is particularly significant because the trailer appears to establish a personal connection between Reed, Sue and Victor von Doom, potentially making the Fantastic Four central to the conflict.
The X-Men Are Back
Perhaps the biggest surprise for longtime Marvel fans is the return of several actors from the former Fox X-Men franchise. Patrick Stewart returns as Professor Charles Xavier, while Ian McKellen reprises Magneto. James Marsden is back as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Their inclusion marks a major expansion of the MCU’s multiverse storyline and raises questions about how these versions of the X-Men will fit into the larger Marvel universe. The D23 presentation also offered fans their first look at the costumes for Nightcrawler and Mystique, along with a new poster featuring Doctor Doom.
A Massive Multiverse Showdown
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ brings together heroes from three distinct universes as they face an existential threat unlike anything they have previously encountered. The film also stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Kathryn Newton, Mabel Cadena and Tenoch Huerta Mejia, among others. With Doctor Doom seemingly more powerful than the heroes expected, the return of the original X-Men stars and the arrival of the Sentinels, the latest footage suggests that Marvel is setting up one of its most ambitious multiverse stories yet.
