Most Goans love football, enjoy watching football and of course play football. However over the last few years their response to half hazardly organized Indian Football League matches has been lukewarm and disappointing. Almost for all games played even at PJN Stadium at Fatorda, one saw few spectators and mostly empty stands. In comparison to this the playground witnessed maddening rush and overflowing crowds at the ISL matches last year. Unfortunately during the last calendar year our Goan teams too disappointed the fans with their below par performances.
But now it looks like things are to be different with the arrival of Zico, the legendary Brazilian footballer and FC Goa marquee coach. His active interaction with students of various schools and people of Goa and the rousing welcome and overwhelming response he is receiving speak volumes that football in Goa, once again is on their minds and certainly going to be the number one sport in the months to come.
I am sure that Zico’s early presence in Goa is very encouraging and is definitely going to boost the morale and enthusiasm of both players and football fans, which in turn will greatly increase the chances of FC Goa winning ISL.
