On Sunday 5 July 2015, I was at Ravindra Bhavan’s, “Black Box” Margao, watching the audition of 2nd Edition of ‘Goencho Avaz’. It was amusing to see a huge turnout of amazing participants in both solo and duet classification, singing the songs sung by the renowned singers like the… Lt. M.Boyer, Lt. Alfred Rose, Lt. M. Rafi, Bhai Lorna, Bhai Rita Rose, Bhai Platilda and others, but the only unhappy part was that none of the participants gave admiration to the legendary singers while introducing themselves, with the song and the singer ‘s name they were to sing the song of. With the exception of the two ladies who touched their ears while taking the name of Lorna and Rita Rose.
I don’t know if the contestants ever observed the compere Agnelo de Borim, after every song he said Dev Borem Korun bhai or bab.. Whoever the contestant may be, he took his/her name with appreciation. If he could show respect to you, why could you not show your respect to the legendary singers. I am sure we all must have seen the TV shows Indian Idol, DID etc., where the participants take the names of their singers, masters with reverence.
I would also like to highlight that some of the participants sang the Konkani songs with foreign accent, for example the famous duet song of Lt. Alfred Rose & Rita Rose..Aage neuri (naari) tuje nakantlem notem paeim sourim (sorim). Have you’ll heard Hindi songs sung in foreign accent, no! Than why only Konkani songs. Don’t forget you’ll are only spoiling the value of the song and the language. I feel the judges should be strict with this.
Goencho Avaz, brought to us by Herald is a prestigious award were a winner’s life can take a transformation so value it. Take the example of Bhai Cielda who was the winner last year. With the super hit film Nachom-ia kumpasar, she is become the star of the Konkani industry. So, let’s make the best of this platform “Goencho Avaz”.
